Was thinking of getting one of those 300 or 500 chip sets. About how many players can 300 chips serve? 500? Would probably play both limit and no limit Hold'Em

500 is easily good for a single table cash or tournament. i've just barely made it work for up to 14 at two tables.

500 would be better if you are going to have 10 people. I assume you are mainly playing cash games?

here's a couple links:

Thanks,

Actually, I don't expect to usually have six, and maybe up to eight, so it looks like 300 would be enough.

We will be playing some Limit, some NL, some ring, and some tournament style.

6-8 is fine with 300 *if* you play the same poker game all the time. If you play different games at different limits you may want to go ahead and get 500. For instance, we play micro NLHE usually with a 0.10/0.25 blind structure. If I never played stud, draw or newbie night with 0.05/0.10 blinds, I wouldn't need the 0.05 chips and could just do a 0.25/0.25 blind NLHE game. I have another group of friends that will play 0.50/1.00 NLHE so I have one set of 700 that will cover a 10 or 11 person game at all these limits. I feel confident running a 20 person tournament with these chips.

150 - 0.05
225 - 0.25
225 - 1.00
50 - 5.00
25 - 20.00

Maybe consider getting only 3 diff chip colors to maximize your use... in tourney situations when you color up one chip reuse it at a higher value for later color ups. I think for cash games you could get by with 3 colors or 4 if one color was a very low quantity.

Just another thought,

U need more chips for Tourneys, because you can always use cash in a cash game. Just have the winner sell chips to the people who need more and leave the money on the table.
