smelled too much like two little pair, a set or a slowplayed over pair.... any thoughts?

I would fold this preflop since most of the time you will get yourself into tricky situations, like this one, where you have a marginal hand out of position.

I fold this preflop, but I'm really new to sngs...

Very, VERY good fold in my opinion. This early in a tourney, a raise like that usually says "I can beat TPTK". No need to overcommit yourself to any borderline situations with the blinds at 10-20.

No. I don't agree. A10, can be played profitably here as long as you are willing to make prudent laydowns in marginal situations (which you demostrated the ability to do here). Often, everyone will fold to your flop-bet and onto the next hand we go...

I guess you play the other premium hands like KJ UTG+1? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Muck pre-flop. And it isn't close, especially from EP.

Some reasons why are:
What do you to to a preflop raise?
What do you do on a flop of 8TK?
And as your post showed, you can't even feel great about a ten-high flop.
Also, first round, people will often limp from later positions w/ AJ and AQ.

Just save your chips so you can steal blinds in later rounds with them when you get the same hand. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ah, also to answer the question you actually asked...
yes, it was a good fold.
