I'm not that old (47) yet I really do like to play stud instead. I feel like there is a lot more money to be made in holdem, but I like the thought process and pace of stud. There are fewer and fewer stud tables. If there is an open seat in stud and one in holdem, I'll take stud every time. Am I a fool not to play more (or only?) holdem?

I would say that depends on the reason you play. If you do it for the money, and you feel that there is more money to be made playing hold'em than stud, then yes, you are a fool. =) Otherwise, you are not.

If you don't enjoy playing hold 'em, then you probably won't make as much money even if the game is good. If you like both (even if you like stud more) and are playing mostly to make money, you should go with whatever game has the easiest line-up to beat at the particular time. All this, of course, is just my opinion...

7card, by its nature, has more variance, so make sure your bankroll is bigger than you would have for a limit holdem game.

I also find people know less about stud than holdem, so you tend to get very few average players in casino's in my area.. they are either complete newbie's, or they are pretty accomplished players. If your table selection is good, then you can make this into a good edge for you.

Also one important thing you are forgetting.

Since there are 3 cards to choose from people make larger initial mistakes.

A good player selecting quality habds Ah Qh Th

Compared to an average player 7c 8s Td

The possibilities are greater in difference than holdem where in most cases they are a 1:2 underdog.

I'm in the same boat. I was sitting next to Mason the other night and said this. He looked at me like I had two heads, lol.

Then he proceeded to tell me that Stud is a "better game" than HE, so I felt a little vindicated, lol.

At any rate, like I said, I'm with you, and I'm only 36, hehe.

My advice would be to seek out good Stud games, like in LA. That is the advice Ray Zee gave me a year ago, and he was correct.

I love this game. Hellmuths book has an excellent chapter along with Todd Brunsons chapter in Doyles new Super Systems. Lotta money available online in these games.

I think about two tables is all you can play...you need to know what cards were folded before the action comes to you! I have seen some people playing three or four tables on PS though...
