Playing 6 12 hold'em at Canterbury on friday, this hand comes up. I raise one limper in LP with KK, the SB, a LOL, calls. Flop is ten-high, they check to me, I bet, only the LOL calls. Turn is a low blank, check bet call. River pairs the four on the board. The LOL looks at the board, reaches into her stack, picks up some chips, moves her hand forward.. and checks. I of course immediately bet. She sighs, says "I'll call", and mucks soonafter.

as soon as she starts to move her chips forward you can say raise and her motion should count as a bet. when someone grabs for chips and brings them forward that counts as a bet in most places if you act behind on that motion.

this will usually piss the opponent off enough into calling and many weak 6-12 players are too chicken to make it 3 bets with rivered trips against a preflop raiser/river raiser so there are some better hands she could have that you dont have to worry about being reraised by thus giving the play more value.

about a week ago I was in a $3/$6 game. I had AA on the button, but the button was a little to my right and I spaced out and bet out of turn (I really spaced, considering if I was paying attention and it really was on my rightI would have CR'ed)
anyway, the dealer says, "wait your turn," it gets checked to me, then I check just for the sake of the humor I check it through and the table erupts in laughter. (the same ploy the woman in your post used. Although I didn't intentionally do it, it DID work)

I then check raised the loosest most aggressive man I've ever seen (he was a huge jerk, and had been poking fun at my age since I sat down, which I don't mind in fun, but he was being nasty about it) I checkraised him on the NEXT THREE BETTING ROUNDS
Can you believe that after checkraising him the flop, then the turn, he still bet after my check on the river?
he mucked to my trip aces, I gathered my chips and left.
(I know HPFAP says never make a move heads up that makes a fool of someone, but that hand was more fun then any I've ever played)

I've logged over 2000 hours, maybe closer to 3000, at Canterbury Park (ever thought about getting a life, Andy?) and I have never seen any evidence that the "forward motion" rule that I read so much about is in effect. I think the LOL's motion should be a bet, but I don't get a vote. I sincerely doubt that complaining about it will do any good, either. The only advice I can give is to wait until your opponent has actually acted before making any kind of movement yourself.

BTW, venh_ (what the hell kind of handle is that anyway?), I posted a response to your Canterbury rant on the B&M forum, FWIW. There aren't enough forums on this board....

a mechanical ploy to prevent U from betting. If she looked at U while picking up her chips, she does NOT want U to bet.
If she noticed that U looked back at your hand when she created the ploy, she can safely assume that U were bluffing. But if U did NOT look back at your 2 cards, then it's a safe bet that U had a legitimate hand.
This ploy is often used by pro's to elicit "tells' from their opponents.
See Caro's "Tells".

BTW,in some casinos,verbal bets/calls are binding.
