12 team mixed league... Auction style.. Points and head to head league. We get to keep up to 4 players.

I am keeping for sure:
Victor Martinez - $6
Carlos Beltran - $25

Aramis Ramirez - $6 (80% sure I want to keep him too)

The rest:
Oliver Perez - $11
Jim Edmonds - $7
Freddy Garcia - $9
David Wells - $12
Josh Beckett - $12
Carl Crawford - $11 (steals are not important, since it is all points based.. he's still pretty good, though)

I really like Oliver Perez, I think he has the ability to be a big strikeout pitcher. Jim Edmonds did really well for me last year (was a top 15 OF in my league), but he is old and injury prone.

What would you gurus do?

Oliver Perez, and it's not even close

I'd keep Ramirez. You have him at a really good price, and (young) pitchers like Perez are just too unpredictable.

oliver perez if your definitely keeping the other 3. to me edmonds at 7 seems like a better value than beltran at 25 but i usually play draft leagues so i dont know how important the saraly numbers are. Beltran is moving to a tough hitters park after playing in a great hitters park last year. Beckett is probably the only other one worth considering.

Thanks for the replies.

Sammy: To put it into perspective, Pujols, A-Rod, Vladimir usually go for $50-60 on draft day. A handful of top OF's will go for $30-45, then most other OF's will go for the $10-$20 range. This is why Beltran is a definate in my league, since he is one of the premier hitters (he was #2 overall points last year to Pujols).

I'm glad you guys are agreeing with me on Perez. I wanted to make sure I wasn't just being biased since I was big on him last year.

You're not biased. Keep him and Ramirez.

I'd need a refresher on your points system before I definitively say oliver perez. I am extremely tempted to keep crawford at that price. Also, is there a yearly increase on keepers?

But how far behind could Edmonds have possibly been? Certainly nowhere near $18 worth, especially since steals are not valuable. I suppose you can consider him an injury risk, but last year he missed 25 games, the most in 4 years.

I think I'm dropping either Victor or Beltran here. Probably Vic, as position scarcity is overrated.

Ramirez is a definite. After that, I agree that Oliver Perez is the best value. If you keep Edmonds, he will play no more than 120 games.

Am I unaware of some off-season surgery for Edmonds? I can't think of any other reason for this assumption. He's played in > 133 in 7 of the last 8 years. I said earlier he missed 25 games last year, but that was actually in 2003. Last year he missed 9.

Beltran will not be worth $25.

Aramiz and Oliver are your best bets. Edmonds will be a steal for $7 but won't be around long. Crawford's a ripoff and so's everyone else, so if you're not hurting for money, you should probably go with what you intend.
