I'm pretty sure that on various forms (applications and what not) somebody of Mexican heritage would typically check-mark the box for 'Latino' if they chose to respond to the section asking about their race.


I really don't know though.
But i suspect it could be kind of a sub-category...kind of like a Scandanavian is still a European and/or Caucasian (unless, of course, they aren't).

Again...I don't really know.


the GF told me a few weeks ago that her Mom had talked with her and her brother regarding a concern that they were not as in touch with their 'latino roots' as they should be.
"you are latino and should NEVER forget that you are latino." That type of thing.

I'm not exactly the most worldly person out there...my understanding of the cultural universe is actually pretty pathetic.

But some of this sillyness is truly mind-boggling.




Let me help you....my Peruvian GF and her family refer to themselves as Latino. I'm assuming that means others of Spanish heritage in Peru do also thinks of themselves as Latino also (by Spanish heritage I mean that I'm not including the Inca or other indigenous folk or Asian immigrants there)


I doubt there is a single Italian person out there who considers himself 'Latino' unless he is of Spanish heritage somehow.
