that would suck to spend all that money on a router, only to find out your IP address is assigned by your ISP and wouldn't change regardless of your hardware. Unless you needed another router for some other purpose in which case it wouldn't suck at all. It would be awesome. but you'd still be banned. which would still suck.

This banning is ridiculous. It seems all sorts of valuable posters have been getting banned lately. I hope this gets under control before we lose one. Anybody know how many accounts get banned per week? We only hear about the ones people care about; we don't hear about the trolls with 5 posts that get banned. I think there should be a warning before someone gets banned if they've been here a while and have made usefull posts. Sure, if they ignore warnings from Mat, they deserve to get banned until they apologize, but banning as a first step is stupid.

Thank you for posting this Matt. In all the time i've posted here (which, obviously is no where near as long as others), i have not seen a public post about bypassing the profanity filter not being ok. It was getting used so much that i think some factors thought it was de facto ok since nothing had been said about it.

It's my opinion that a small post goes a long way towards correct a problem if something is widely abused. You seem to think banning works better, which is cool i guess, but is a bit more abrasive...

I usually refer to posters by their real name if their SN is awkward. IE John for cnfuzzed, Josh for sthief, Dave for sfer. Posters like JBB, CDC, and Bison get referred to by their SNs.

This is weak, Mat.

This poster had truly offended me with his brash and open use of vulgarity. One of the things I really like about 2+2 is the supposed civility and respectfulness between posters. When this young man demonstrates his juvenile immaturity by flooding these boards with words that should be censored but aren't because he is overly obsessed with circumventing the filtering system (a true Cool Hand Luke), he needs to be banned, and it should serve as a lesson for all of the upstart youngsters who seem to be taking over this board.

My respect for 2+2 and its members has taken a hit today as a result of this episode.

This was what I was talking about in the Freakin banned thread. One or two public (temporary) bannings accomplishes a lot more than sending out 50 warnings to 50 individual posters. (and you kmow how many posters there are, and how they like to imitate each other in "bad" behavior.)

And the burden of unbanning should be on the poster.

Wow, and I'm the yutz responsible for starting that mess of a thread in the first place. Sorry, guys; I wasn't looking to start so much trouble.

The thread was meant as satire with respect to the "people who post in micros too much" thread, which had some content that irked me for a few reasons:

a) There are many strong posters who post lots in micros, who could be playing higher and don't, or post lots there to give back. In my book, that's pretty cool.

b) There are lots of posters who are looking to learn that post in micros a lot and try to share what they are learning while they learn it. In my book, that's pretty cool, too.

c) Class warfare sucks.

Sure, there are lots of n00b posters too, but hey, you've got to start somewhere. I was a n00b poster not too long ago. (And, judging by the mess, I'm not far from one now! /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Anyway, I sure wasn't looking to start trouble, and also I really didn't realize the dodging the profanity filter bit was something the mods were actually concerned with. So, my apologies to stheif and Mat.
