HDPM

I get back from Las Vegas to find this new format. I hate it so far. And since High Desert Poker Man seemed to have too many characters, I went to HDPM. Oh well. Anyway, despite not being able to hook up with Pokerbabe, it was a great trip. I think I just missed her at the Mirage on Saturday afternoon. Oh well again. But I did meet KJS and his friends which was a good thing. Anyway, I got in town Friday and played a while at the Orleans where I was staying. A friend who lives there found me and we headed to the Mirage after I cashed a reasonable win in the 4-8 game. We hit the Mirage up for some comp buffets and ate way too much of the mediocre food. Mirage buffet used to be way better, but it's pretty good for free, a rip off if you pay IMO. While I was loading a plate in the buffet line my cell phone went off. It was my wife saying that her case was probably going to settle and that she booked a one-way flight to Las Vegas for Saturday morning. We'd then drive back together. That changed the focus of my trip, but I was glad for that. I haven't seen her much since May the way things have been going on her case. So I did the only thing I could do and played the 10-20 until 4:30 or 5:00 AM and couldn't see straight. Small win was all I could manage and I had to wait patiently for that.
Didn't play a whole lot Saturday but did get to see my wife and play with KJS. I started in the Mirage 6-12, which was a good game. I was on the list for 10-20 and had my name rolled once. The second time I was called I was stupid enough to take it. The game was horrible. If you got action you were beat basically. I lost just 30 or 40 and had the sense to leave and get back on the 6-12 list while my wife played 3-6. So I got to play with KJS and a couple of his friends, which was a lot of fun.
This was a very serious game with us 2+2ers as you might imagine. KJS was forcibly taken to Las Vegas to celebrate his impending marriage so we were making him drink at the table. I was only pretending to drink all that Makers Mark the waitresses were bringing, so I'd be super sharp. Dynasty was watching our no-action tight game during part of this and may have seen some super genius plays. My last hand was played just magnificently. I'll let others elaborate. Anyway, after tips and whisky, I left the 6-12 game $5 ahead of the town. But there really was no poker game in Las Vegas I would have rather been in at that moment.
On Sunday my wife hit the Venetian spa. I was going to meet her back at the Orleans, but never made it out of the venetian. The shops there produced a new pair of tennis shoes, three old golf books (one signed) from the golf store there, and one cigar. I thought I did well not to buy an old Tommy Armour putter from the store. I took my haul down to the sportsbook and drank Becks, smoked the overpriced cigar, read the old Dan Jenkins, and watched sports. I can recommend that combination of activities to those waiting on their wives. I suppose I can't complain about the woman throwing off money on frivolous things, huh?
Later on we played a bit more at the Orleans, then went to the Bellagio. I got in a very good 15 game there. The 15 there was so much better than the Mirage 10-20. Night and day. There were a couple of locals in the game who I called "deck change locals". They were really superstitious. Sitting out a hand to get the cards order different, changing to lucky seats, etc... They wanted to be serious players, so they were quite a sight. Another local was OK, but way too aggressive. For a while there were some weaker players there too. It was great. Needless to say I lost money playing QQ against a weaker player's 7-6 (yeah, my raise was coldcalled) and won a nice pot taking my JJ up against AA. That's how it goes I guess. So I cashed a decent win from the 15 and called it a trip.
Anyway, I got to meet KJS, see Dynasty and talk with Mason briefly, missed other 2+2ers, maybe next time. And got to see my wife for the first time all summer. Not too bad.
