i just ran across an old post about the oklahoma cardrooms but none of the threads had a real trip report about the only cardroom going on in the state right now that i am aware of, and that's the cherokee casino in tulsa.
i live approximately ten miles from the casino so i have been able to make a few trips out. i was there the opening night and it was a crazy house. it had calmed down considerably since the opening. i was able to jump into a 10-20 omaha/8 game right when i showed the first day, and it didn't break up, which suprised me.
the limits i have seen them spread are: 1-5 stud, $300, $500 and $1,000 max buy-in no limit, 4-8 hold'em, 6-12 hold'em, 10-20 hold'em, 20-40 hold'em and 10-20 omaha/8. i was lucky enough to jump into a 20-40 hold'em game that had about ten people on the list, but they said there was immediate seating since the table was just starting up, so they didn't turn me away. unfortunately, this table broke up after about 2 hours.
i had the chance to get into a 4-8 game last week so for people who are interested in 4-8 hold'em, just so you know, the games are ridiculous. the calibur of people at these tables make the game really hard to enjoy. mostly 18-30 year olds in sunglasses and hoods trying to shuffle their chips. last friday i bought my chips (after about a 30 min wait, not bad) and sat down and got K-K on my second hand. the guy right behind me re-raised and after everybody folded, i smooth called. anyways, an ace on the flop saved me some bets as the guy had A-A for a flopped set and was a complete ass about it like he is a good player because he has aces. i'm only 18-years-old, but i definately have a lot more class than the people at this table. i just grabbed my chips and left because people seem to be a lot more friendly at just one limit higher. i'm assuming every 4-8 & 6-12 table is like this because that's how the people have been in the LV 4-8 games i have played.
but, overall, i would say that a 3 or 4 hour drive would be worth it for anyone wanting to play some live poker. the floor people are extremly nice and keep things going very well. not to mention how nice the room, tables, chips etc. are. this, without a doubt, will be the poker room in oklahoma.
