View Full Version : I hate to min-raise, but is this a good spot for it?

Party NL50 6-max table. Villain in this hand seemed okay at the time. I've got ~100 and he has me covered.

I get 88 on the button, UTG (Villain) raises to $3, CO calls, I call, BB calls. Pot is ~$11 after rake.

Flop is 589. Looks good. Check, Villain bets pot, CO folds, I call, BB folds. Pot is ~$30 after rake.

Turn is a 5. Sweet. Villain bets $15, I call. Pot ~$60.

River is a J. He bets $20. I have ~$70 behind and start to think about the best way to get more money out of him. I hate min-raising so much. I raise it to $50. He folds.

Is this a spot where a min-raise makes sense?

Thanks.

Shameless bump... anyone have a thought on the river play here?

It looks like he would have folded to any raise on the river. If hes not gonna call 30 more he probably wouldnt of called 20 either.

Either bet out or raise him.

How much action do you think you'll get on a 6, 7, 9, T turn card?

If he's folding to a 30 raise on top of his 20, I think that he's folding to a min-raise as well. I think he was likely bluffing here with a missed AK and but you on a draw since you were calling down.

Agreed. I don't think you could get any extra money out of him on this one. Mayyyybe contemplate raising the flop to kill some draws, I wouldn't really worry about the 67 here. I think you basically extracted the most from him.... maybe use some online "tells": if he bet out quickly, think about it for a long time and raise him up. If it took forever, contemplate only minraising him since he's a bit more hesitant.

You may have got more check/raising or betting the turn. Some draws would have called. I would say he was betting the draw, missed, and was just taking a stab. Once it got heads up, I'd do something before the river.
