given you are playing a full table small stakes holdem game that plays at an average pace, how many more hands can you expect to get in per hour with an auto shuffler than traditional shuffling? also if anyone knows of any good previous threads on hands per hour at live games with given variables (such as crappy dealers) then please post a link because i cant find it.

i think average without shuffler is like 30-35. shuffler makes it 40-45.

Yeah, what the previous reply said. 40-45 an hour. I've taken the trouble of keeping track a few times. And these are games with 5+ players seeing the flop.

We have shuffler's at the Bike and my estimate is that the shufflers add about three to five more hands per hour.

Yeah, 3-5 is a good estimate. 10+ per hour is rather steep.

I don't have any empirical evidence, but I'd swear I was getting an extra five hands out per 30-minute down.

Of course, that may be because I'm the last of a dying breed (dealers who wash the cards before shuffling them).

trust dawgs, these little puppies are at least good for 10 more an hour.

heres the breakdown:
press the green button, take the deck out, cut, deal. its that simple. takes at most 5 seconds.

vs.

monster table wash, gather up all the cards and get them into a neat deck, shuffle, riffle, shuffle, shuffle, riffle, riffle, strip, strip, shuffle, cut, then deal. sh1t takes at least a minute.

Is the deck shuffled good after one pass through the auto-shuffler? (I've never seen one in person.)

I think Rick's numbers are more correct. I asked a floorman from a different casino with the autoshufflers and he told me 36-38/hour.

They can get more accurate #s....all they have to do is look at the drop figures...no guessing involved.

I've assumed I don't have access to the drop figures (maybe I do?!) so my numbers combine my own estimates with those of others I trust.

My understanding is that it's been demonstrated to perform a far more thorough shuffle than any dealer using normal procedures. Keep in mind the shuffler takes about 45 seconds to do its job - on a blind steal the dealer usually has to do a manual shuffle since the machine isn't finished and it looks silly waiting /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Of course nobody is factoring in the differences between regions. I find that East Coast dealers are faster than Vegas dealers, they tend keep the game moving better as well. Thats been my biggest dissapointment on this Vegas trip, just not getting enough hands per hour. Watching some of these dealers just wash riffle and shuffle is agonizing, then they wast another 10 secs per hand with their slow and methodical dealing of the cards to each player. I guess its a big difference between East Coast and West Coast lifestyles /images/graemlins/frown.gif

A computer chip selects a card at random, and the machine pulls it "through the wringer" into the "shuffled" pile.

That computer chip is pretty good at randomizing.

Hi Rick,
It shuffles the cards multiple times then I guess. I was thinking it only shuffled them once, thus I couldn't see how they could get shuffled well. -TomBk

[/ QUOTE ]Oh, it doesn't shuffle two halves together at once, it takes one card at a time and restacks the deck...... now I see said the blind man (sort of getting the picture, anyway.) Thanks.

for those that have never seen the shufflers, keep in mind that the decks are constantly being shuffled. theres 2 decks, when 1 deck is being used, the other one is being shuffled in the machine. so when the hand is finished, all the dealer has to do is push the button and the fresh deck is pulled out and ready to use. i get the feeling that people think that after every hand, they have to wait for the machine to shuffle. i just wanted to clear that up.

a good dealer makes the shufflemaster sing, up to 6-8 more hands, avg. like Rick states though +3 hph

No it is more a function of rapid growth in Vegas and having to find new dealers. In the west Vegas dealers are the worst, but in general dealers are a LOT better in the west.

The dealers in Arizona are slower too. Its not about being better, its about being quicker. I think its a difference between the two lifestyles, NJ/NJ/CT people are faster paced.
