I am posting my hand here simply because misreading my hand cost me here. I guess it happens to everyone, probably more often in the casino than online. Usually because I try and lift my hole cards so now one else can see them. Please share similar stories. I thought my A /images/graemlins/heart.gif was an A /images/graemlins/spade.gif

I am sitting at 10/20 at casinorama. UTG+1 is a LAG (raises QTs UTg, he checkraises the river on a bluff, etc.), he is an older man who's English isn't very good. Most people sit at 10/20 with $400 this old man has a small stack but in it is a $1000 chip and a $5000 chip. MP3 is a younger guy who is getting really angry with UTG+1, Mp3 is a big talker and is saying that I shouldn't try to figure him out because I will just end up crazy, BB is a tighter player, UTG is kind of fishy

Preflop: Hero is SB with A /images/graemlins/heart.gif K /images/graemlins/club.gif
UTG calls, UTG+1 raises, 2 folds, MP3 calls, 1 folds, Button calls,Hero 3 bets , BB calls, UTG calls,UTG+1 caps , MP3 calls, Button calls, Hero calls, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: Q /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif 7 /images/graemlins/spade.gif6 players
Hero bets
BB folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 raises
MP3 calls, Button folds, Hero calls.

Turn: 3 /images/graemlins/spade.gif 4 players
Hero checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 bets, Mp3 folds, Hero calls, UTG folds

I thought I need 1 /images/graemlins/spade.gif to give me the nut flush.

River: K /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 2 players
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets, Hero raises , UTG+1 re-raises hero calls.

I thought that UTG+1 was probably holding Kx and that my K was good. When I had to turn my hand over I was shocked to realize that I had no spades. A few players said they thought I was on a flush draw. I felt stupid, anyone have any similar experience. Thank god that another spade didn't fall or it would have gotten ugly. Fortunately UTG+1 had no spades either, I thought my AK was good on the end, so I raised. I know some ppl would say that I should just check call there. The moral of the story, make sure you know what you are holding.
Comments welcome

Try not to do that. It's generally -EV.

Yes, knowing what your cards are is probably good advice -- for a total n00b!

If you were good, you wouldn't need to look at your cards, you would just have to see the other guy look at his. A liite something I learned from "TILT" on ESPN.

One time I thought I flopped bottom two pair. Board paired top card on the turn, I bet and got raised, went to look at my hand and muck (This was a long while ago and I don't know why I did this, in fact it bugs me when people relook at their hand)....realized I actually just had 3rd pair /images/graemlins/confused.gif

2 things:

1. Did you win?
2. $5000 chip? $1000 chip? At a 10/20 table? How is this even being allowed? What are the colors for the 1k/5k chips?

I lost to KQs (hearts). Luckily I came up way ahead that day, but that one hand bugged me for a while. The $5000 chip is a pink and yellow chip. The $1000 chip is purpleish. He just has the high value chips mixed in with his other chips. They don't care what you bring to the table. Some ppl have stupid things like a lucky coin or a little trinket on their chips.

Maybe I'm not aggressive enough, but what was the point of leading out on the flop? Also, wouldn't you put your opponent on something like AQ given his re-raise? I probably would have check-folded the flop, even if I did have the A spades. I don't really enjoy having to rely on running spades to have the nuts.

Apparently you are familiar with the "call it down" strategy of SSHE

Me too, thought I had quad 8's, had 6-8 offsuit and turned trips. MHIG still though. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok, so not much of a story here. Bite me.
