What is the appropriate amount (in terms of the percentage of the prize pool) to pay for a stack in a freezout tournament? Assume the following:

There are 5 players and you will be buying the stack of a player that is leaving.

The stack is 10% of the total chips in play and is the smallest stack.

The payout structure is 1st: 2/3 , 2nd: 1/3.

The skill level of all players is approximately the same.

Before we can answer that, we need to know how big your stack and the other stacks are.

2500

700

The blinds are currently 25-50. You're buying the 700 stack. What is the theoretical value of the stack?

Very complicated problem, all I can do is put a lower limit on it. It's at least worth 2/30 of the prize pool, since if you play just to get first place you should win at least 10% of the time if you are of equal skill.
