View Full Version : Any Good Craps Software To Practice For Vegas Fun?

Going to Las Vegas in a few weeks after an eight year hiatus. Don't plan on playing poker (that would be too much like work /images/graemlins/grin.gif ) but we plan on hitting the craps table between drinking and carousing binges.

Favorite "bang for the buck" gambling is craps but it's been so long we forget the fine points of how to play.

So...we have two questions:

Is there any decent free craps software out there where we could get a bit of practice at home? I found some using Google but it looks like it comes loaded with spy ware or other catches. I do have a Coral/Eurobet poker account and wonder if I can play for free (or pennies) on their gambling site as a US citizen (I'm clueless about online casino gambling/sports betting).

Also, what odds on pass line/don't pass/come bets and so on do most strip casinos currently offer (i.e., 2 x's, full odds, 10 x's)? We want to practice placing bets with the commonly available odds.

All help appreciated /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Casino-on-Net lets you play for free as does Phoenician/Nostalgia. Not sure if they come with Spyware but I'd guess they do.

Many casinos now have limits of 4 to 5 times odds. Ten times odds is still given at some casinos but I can't be specific about which ones. Downtown, in general, may have better odds than most strip casinos.

It is now rare to find a $5 or under table on the strip, at least in the bigger casinos and especially on weekends. Bring a wad of cash that is meaningless money to you if wish to spray chips about on a craps table.

Here is an excellent, small, inexpensive book on craps that I recommed. All about craps (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0399514627/qid=1108319223/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/102-2249973-0099324?v=glance&s=books)

The author advises, wisely, just making passline wagers and come bets with odds and ignoring all the other place bets and sucker bets etc.

Good luck and have a great time.

Wincraps has free software. Most strip casinos have 3-4-5 odds (3x odds on point of 4 and 10, 4x odds on point of 5 and 9, and 5x odds on point of 6 and 8)

Downtown? Man, I'm low rent but not that low rent /images/graemlins/grin.gif

That I remember. I'd like to get the odds bets straight on pass line and come bets. I also remember there was a situation where odds don't play unless you say otherwise (I think on the come out roll when the shooter hasn't crapped out).

We will certainly try to suck up an equivalent amount of free drinks relative to the - 1.52 to 1.48% vigorish on the initial pass line type bets (if memory serves me) /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also, if you want to tip by placing a bet "for the boys" or whatever what is the most common, classy or cool bet to make Mr. Craps Professional?

Thanks! Downloaded it and it looks like it is exactly what we need to practice.

Ok, say you are winning big and say the point is 8. Toss out a 'fiver' toward the prop bet section of the table (in front of the stickman), or whatever amount you wish to flush down the toilet, and say 'hard 8 for the dealers'.

Or do a 'any craps' bet on the come out roll.

Good plan. Craps is best played with a good buzz going, just enough booze for that pleasent relaxed feeling but not too much so you lose track of all you come bets and odds wagers etc.

If you get at least double odds bets on all your pass line wagers, I think the vig goes down to about .6. The cumulative on come bets and taking odds wagers, plus betting the pass line etc are the best you can get from a casino. Well, BJ on the strip is still about break even if basic stratgey is used, I think. But that takes effort.

Actually, I only know of 1 casino left that has 10x odds. That is Boulder Station on the Boulder Strip. $2 min always. Also, Casino Royale has 100x odds on a $2 min game on the strip. Seems pretty much everyone is 2x or 3,4,5x odds nowadays.
Cheapo Vegas.com (http://www.cheapovegas.com) could give more exacts though.

I'm sure any casino program would be fine for craps.

Also, go to an electronics store, I think they sell hand held units for $10 or so.

However -- how much practice is really necessary for Craps (and this from someone who loves to play)
