There are two limpers, I complete in the SB with 7h4h, and the BB checks. I start the hand with $1,040 and BB starts with $910.
The flop is 8d 4s 7c.
I lead for 40. The BB calls and the other two players fold. The BB is a solid, tough player. Turn card is 4d. I lead for 120, and the BB calls. River card is 3h. I bet 300, and the BB folds.

Is this a good play on the river?

I think you either bet smaller say 150 or way larger like 500. Either way your probably not getting paid off.

"I think you either bet smaller say 150 or way larger like 500."

Why?

Hi fire,

I think you played the hand well, but I would usually bet no more than 200 on the river. The one reason to bet more is if you think there's a strong chance he has a straight for some reason, and in this case it doesn't seem particularly likely.

There are a lot of draws available on the turn (open-end, dbb, pair+flush, etc.) for him to have, but the 3h doesn't complete any of them.

What you want to do on the river is represent a halfway decent hand (like 99) that is trying to milk an 8, or a bluff in case he was drawing. 150 is enough to bluff out a missed draw, so if you bet much more than that, he must be suspicious that you are very strong, IMO. He may occasionally come over the top of 150 when he misses, but he will rarely raise you your last 560 on a bluff after you bet 300. So by betting 150, you may tempt him to bluff, and he will call you with a straight or trips (45, 46, something like that), and may even raise you with one of those hands, if he's less solid than you thought.

This is a hard one to get paid off on most times, even if he has something. If you're not real wild, he has to ask himself, "Would he just go off on a 3-barrel bluff in an unraised pot where he's the SB?" It looks like you have something.
