View Full Version : Waking up before your alarm clock

I usually set my alarm clock for whatever reason 3x a week, and I find myself constatly walking up about 10-15 minutes before my alarm clock every time. Like this morning, had to wake up at 7:30, and I was up before that, even though I usually wake up at like 9:30 every morning.

Whats with this?

Your built in alarm clock.

I usually wake up 20 minutes before my alarm clock no matter how late I go to sleep.

Happens to me a lot too. Unfortunately I usually think I can get "another 10 minutes" and end up sleeping for 30.

Make your alarm clock real loud and put it away from your bed like in the bathroom so you've gotta get up and turn it off. So you go to turn it off and you're 2 feet away from the shower.

I've done this and still crawled back into bed 15 times.

I manage to turn off my alarm without waking up every morning. If I really want to wake up, I have to set my stereo to go off in the next room.

My father's the alarm clock in the house.

rig your alarm clock in such a way that you can run a few hundred feet of speaker wire from your room to the shed outside and put your alarm clock in there. this will definetly get you up/piss you off for the rest of the day. if you don't have a shed, bury it.

It's the power of your subconscious. If you can easily get up one minute before your alarm goes off, imagine what else you could get your mind to do if you put some effort into it.

Me too, mornings are really hard for me. Waking up used to be so hard for me I would have an alarm clock in every corner of the room. 2 alarm clocks weren't enough, I would turn them off in my sleep.

Glad I'm not the only one. Even then I would manage to sleepwalk and turn off the alarm. Back in my dorm days my roommate would ask me later if I realised I had turned off my alarm and I always couldn't remember it.

You and Ancient aren't alone here.

I still must have at least 3-4 seperate alarms stationed at various locations throughout my bedroom. Usually, I don't remember turning off the first 2.

Even then I sometimes wake up late.

I have to get up 5am on Mondays to travel to work, its a bugger when you wake up 30 minutes before the alarm goes off. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ha!

Well, I know I'm a computer guy, and I'm pretty sure Ancient is too.
But I've had problems with alarms my whole life.
Even before people had these "PCs". /images/graemlins/smirk.gif
My brain understands it's "just an alarm clock" and ignores it. I have had success with switching the types of alarms I use (different buzzers, etc.), but it only lasts for a short period of time. Eventually, my brain adjusts to it.

Still, being a computer guy doesn't help matters very much.
All of the caffeine most computer guys consume also contributes to the problems.
I used to drink an obscene amount of soda, but these days I only drink water.

Same here. Except I mix in a litte tea and home made lemonade. I go to Sams Club and buy 2 1 quart containers of lemonade and a bag of sugar. Cheap, good, and doesn't have a syrup taste.

I am definetly not a computer guy and have had this same problem for the past couple years. I currently have 3 alarm clocks in different areas of my room.

Is there any way to adjust your sleep cycle so that you're going to be slightly after coming home from work/school?

What's worse is finishing the long walk, getting pissed, turning the alarm off and going to bed for good.

I don't believe this is lifestyle related because I've always had this problem ever since middle school.

On a side note, I do not drink anything with caffeine or sugar on a daily basis.
