View Full Version : How I Do Against 10 Player Types in 5/10

I'm trying to analyze holes in my game, so I figured I would use the auto-rate feature of PT and determine which player 'types' I have problems with. I only rated players in which I had played 50 hands. I then created some custom Access queries to determine money won/lost by each player type.

It should be noted that these figures are NOT minus rake. Rake is still included.

I realize that you could have 100+ player types if you included aggression factors, etc... However, I just wanted to use those stats (VPIP, PFR) which converge fairly quickly.

I'm happy to see that I'm winning against fellow TAGs, so there is no need for you to sit at my tables as you will likely lose money. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

I certainly don't have a stellar record against the 4 categories of LAGs and am currently reviewing my play against these players.

BTW, these stats were derived from a 35k+ hand playing DB.

Total Action = Money Won From + Money Lost To

TAG
VPIP 18-30
PFR >10
Total Action: 19k
+384

Very Tight-Passive
VPIP <20
PFR <10
Total Action: 2400
-234

Slightly Tight-Passive
VPIP 20-30
PFR < 10
Total Action: 11k
+5

Very Loose Passive
VPIP >50
PFR <10
Total Action: 42k
+1920

Normal Loose Passive
VPIP 40-50
PFR <10
Total Action: 25k
+1984

Slightly Loose Passive
VPIP 30-40
PFR <10
Total Action: 21k
+554

Slightly LAG (which I consider a Good LAG)
VPIP 30-40
PFR >10
Total Action: 20k
-788

Normal LAG
VPIP 40-50
PFR >10
Total Action: 17k
+116

Very LAG:
VPIP >50
PFR >10
Total Action: 16k
+44

Maniac
VPIP >40
PFR >30
Total Action 216
+ 84

Unknowns
Total Action: 91k
+ 6519

The Unknown figure is certainly interesting. Maybe I'm misapplying my stats from PlayerView when making decisions or maybe I just don't understand how to vary my play against the style of player I'm battling.

I think $$ per 100 hands would be more revealing than bare totals.

Very interesting post. I have been considering VP$IP for 6max a lot recently. Your comment about good (slight) LAG (30-40%) resonates.

I have written often that one should consider some looser calls and raises, especially when you assume some observant opponents. If you play too tight, then you are less likely to get calls on your great hands.

I do not know how to model this, but I am interested in your thoughts about slight LAG being very good!

My current VP$IP (>30k 5/10 hands) 27-28.

I am not saying it is the optimal style for BB/100 but the players I find most difficult to handle are the vpip 30-35, Pfr 15-25. In other words, the slight LAG

These player types really dont mean anything.

Your problem is you are focused on peoples preflop play not postflop.

A LAG is someone who is overly aggressive not just preflop. A lot of them can be 50/5 preflop with aggression factors of 3 postflop, based on your types he is loose passive.

A thinking LAG is someone who overplays some hands to get more action on others he will throw in raises when fold equity is at its highest.

A maniac is someone who blindly raises anything, the types who cap the flop and turn with nothing not just preflop.

A Loose passive is a guy with low aggression factor post flop he will only bet stuff like TPTK or better.

Plenty of people play differently postflop.

Just stick with 4 player types.

LAG, TAG, Loose/Passive and Weak/Tight
