Does music help you play better poker?

I find that music helps me in that I'm focused more and concentrating harder and not thinking about other things besides the game. I'm not saying I play better, but music definitely helps me go through the cold spells.

Agreed. For some, music is a distraction. For me, it's a distraction filter.

It depends what mood I'm in... sometimes it helps me, other times it distracts me.

When I'm playing poorly or getting my ass kicked sometimes the music gets frustrating, like damn, maybe if I weren't listening to this trash I would be winning. It's not my fault.

I highly recommend the CD 'Gyral', by Scorn, for assistance in maintaining a state of total equanimity.

I listen to a lot of Metallica, and Slayer, and such. The heavy rock helps keep me calm during bad beats, and cold decks. It's wierd I know, but it works for me.

Hiya -

For me, music really helps me concentrate, but I listen to anything instrumental. I think I'm the weird one considering others listen to more intense music than I do. I listen to all styles (save for country and rap), when I'm NOT playing poker, but when I am, instrumental for me is the way to go.

If its too uptempo or I havent listened to it before, music can knock me out of focus and my gameface (kumfasa) is lost. Otherwise its essential, the poker soundeffects alone hurt my sensitive ears.
