I just got back from a Soldier of Fortune trade show exhibit at the Sahara. The terrorism seminars were very interesting. I did some last minute shopping before I have to leave for my flight back to Detroit tommorrow.

My purchases are currently spread out on my king sized bed here in the Las Vegas Hilton.

BAGGAGE MANIFEST

1. Three dozen tracers, some for the .357, others for the .44 Magnum. They cause a huge yellow streak to erupt from the front of your weapon. The blue-tipped ones are incendiaires.

2. One Galco International shoulder holster for Model 39 Smith and Wesson or the Beretta 9mm auto.

3. One authentic Rommel Field Afrika Korps hat, khaki, silk-lined.

4. 20 red aerial pyrotechnic flares, hand-held, burn 6.5 seconds

5. Two books: "Get Even: The Complete Book of Dirty Tricks" and "Your Conduct in Combat Under the Law of War."

6. Two AlMar One Zero Special Forces/SOD knives, 9 inch blades.

7. One Steyr SSG P-II sniper rifle, 26 inch heavy barrell with synthetic stock of ABS "CYOLAC" and Kahles steel-tube ZF84 6X scope.

8. One Dark Invader 3010 Night Vision System, including infrared spot illuminator/image enhancer with relay lens for 35mm.

9. Two boxes of .45 ExCaliber wax pellets with brass cases-- "a safe, easy and inexpensive alternative to real ammo."

10. Six Riot Buster smoke grenades, 2 inches in diameter, 4 inches long.

11. One 6 oz. can Envelope Compromise Spray, for detection of letter bombs.

12. One Ruger P-85 semiautomatic 9mm double-action pistol, with Sai case.

13. Two chrome octagon Samurai chains, each 21 inches long.

14. One sterling silver Revenge ring, skull motif.

15. One Bruggemann & Brand T-3F nylon triple canopy low altitude troop parachute, 22x13x10-inch pack, 330lb. capacity, for tactical warfare.

16. One European stiletto, stainless steel blade, 5 inches closed.

17. Aerospatiale AACP short-range anti-tank rocket, fully guidable, 4 second quiet time, low muzzle velocity, particularly effective in urban combat conditions, with Kevlar firing tube.

They must have some sort of special compartments for stuff like this... right? I mean, one should be able to buy things that are for legal sale in this country and be able to have them transported by an airline, right?

I don't like the prospect of having to drive all the way back to Detroit with all this sh*t. But I will if I have too.

Well, usually it'd be hard. But you're going back to Detroit. This type of stuff is typical carry-on.

I finally got it all packed. But, what's my plan of action? Should I openly claim all this sh*t, or should I try to sneak it onboard somehow? This dilemma would be so much easier to deal with in the pre 9-11 era. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Are you serious? There's no way you are sneaking all this crap onto the plane.

Zang! Now that's an idea. I don't really trust the United States Postal service, but I guess I don't have a choice. My friend just told me (a casino executive in the Hilton) that if I try bringing this stuff through airline security that they'll lock me up for good.

I would call the airline and explain your situation. If it's possible they will tell you, if not ship it.

swede123
02-11-2005, 12:24 AM
The airline will let you check the firearms, in unloaded condition and in an approved locked container. The ammunition and flares etc you will have to ship to yourself.

Get a nice firearms case with a solid lock. Inform the lady at the check-in counter that you are checking firearms. She will give you a form to fill out and may do a visual inspection of your weapons. That's about it really.

Cheers,

Swede

You must have been playing 4/8 at the Bellagio.
I know it's enough to put you on tilt pretty bad, but isn't this stuff a little extreme?!?! I usually just settle for a little ridicule and maybe some cursing. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

The fact that, that, is actually legal (is it really???) in this country (or anywhere in the world), is just completely effing retarded.

What are you doing with all this stuff? Building a fortress like that wacko guy in Tremors?

TimM

Most of the ammo and stuff cannot be flown I would think. And if you ship it you have to use ground.

The guns you can take in baggage in locked cases. Declare them ahead of time to the airline. Chains and knives and crap like that can go in checked luggage.

The ammo and anything that can explode or burn, forget about it. Not only do you have 9/11 problems, but they are concerned about something going off in baggage hold and brining down the plane.

Call UPS and ship that stuff to yourself (you might contact a local gun store, because I don't think even UPS is going to touch live ammo) find out how they ship their inventory to themselves.

ur best bet is shipping it to urself...or CALLING the airport ahead of time and asking. Id personally go with mailing to ur home...to make sure u have minimal trouble

peachy

u can get insurance shipping it thru UPS or other shipping companies like that

BTW, you seem to be missing something which is a must have for any survivalist. It's called a CAWS. The army actually turned it down because it was too deadly.

Fuhgeddabout taking the hazmat (e.g. tracers) through the airport checked or otherwise. Take a suitcase to the 24-hr Kinko's on Paradise (all cab drivers know where it is) and ship it Fedex Ground. You can even lock the suitcase.

As long as it's factory ammo in factory packaging (IE no handloads) you can check ammo. Each airline has it's own limit, but it's usually around 10 pounds max.
