Long time lurker, first time poster. This place is great, lots to read.

I'm going to vegas soon, and I want to fix my game as much as possible before I go. How did I do here? How much should I be afraid of the flush on the river?

So, why is it right to bet the river here? Becasue I have the best hand more often than one time in 27?

What if I get check-raised? Just call, or fold?

Dont fear the flush. Someone will most likely let you know if he has it. Just beware of the maniacs that will bet like they have the flush. Seriously that small pithy phrase was one of the best pieces of advice I ever got on this board.

Dont Fear the Flush!

Caveat: If a four flush is on the board, then you are permitted to be afraid.

bet because you have the best hand more than 40% (roughly) of the time. its not 25% (putting in 1/4th of the bets) b/c sometimes your opponents will fold and sometimes they will raise.

call b/c you'll have the best hand 1 time in 27 or whatever the pot size is. see the difference?

The flush has zero bearing on this hand. If someone made it on the river, they probably didn't realize it. Blindly fearing the flush on a 3-flush board is usually wrong. When the flush comes backdoor, it's always wrong. Just because someone can make a better hand on the river doesn't mean they usually do.

You played the hand well. I'm partial to calling the turn looking to raise a lead bet on the river, but that's only because, at this level, many players will call your river raise. I don't fear the flush at all.

Do you fold even though you've already posted one?

Would anyone else raise the flop to try for a free card?

yeah, QJo is crap against a preflop raise.

your hand is too weak to go for a free card. just call closing the action.
