Since I am going back to school and will be attempting to use poker as my source of income, I am thinking about buying a computer that I will use solely for poker. Any suggestions about what to get? I want it to be inexpensive, by the way.

Thanks,
PBob

Maybe a Dell desktop, they are pretty cheap. Will you be multi-tabling? If so, you could probably get a decent desktop (with a good graphics card, eg. ATI) and buy a cheap CRT monitor that does 16x12.

If you are using Poker Tracker and use Gametime while multitabling, I would make sure to get 1 Gig of ram. If you are doing more then 4 tables then you need a good graphics card to dual monitor. If you don't know too much about computers then a Dell Desktop is fine because they have great customer service. But if you do then you can get something much cheaper.

I got a 3.4 GHz P4, 160 GB 7200 HDD, 1 GB RAM, 128 MB graphics card (for dual monitoring) Dimention 4600 and it works great so far, as far as working with PV, PT, and pokersites. it ran me about 1k

There was some discussion in the PokerTracker forum a short time back. There were some recommendations (http://www.pokertracker.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2492&highlight=1+37+worth) made by some computer sauve types. The system described sounds like it would be awesome.

Hi sthief:

Can you 8-table 2 party skins + PT + PV + GT on all 8 tables with your computer?.

TIA.

What is a "Party Skin"? Also, I am assuming that 8-tabling requires playing at 2 different sites, since I can only open 4 tables at Party. Am I correct?

Do people actually run PV and GT at the same time? If so, why? Isn't that kind of like ordering a Jack and Coke and Pepsi?

I'm told one is great for scouting the other great for playing. I'm not sure. I'm PT/PV/GT illiterate really and my old clunker won't run them all together anyway.

Be sure to get at least a 7200 rpm hard drive. It makes a noticeable difference with the PT hand imports / note exports.
