Has anyone any thoughts on where the best place is to buyin at for the PP steps? I've got the bankroll to buyin at $200, would that be recommended?

The pros all buy in at the top.

Unfortunately, I'm not a pro (I don't suck either of course), and I don't have the roll to buyin at $1000. So short of that...

Well then you may not have the roll to play the level 4s, either. You need to estimate what your expected number of freerolls to level 5 is per level 4, and what the expected value of the resulting level 5 is for you. Then multiply the two together. If the result is not more than $200, then no bankroll is enough.

Most players here like to have in the neighborhood of a 30 buyin bankroll or so with an ROI of 25-30%. So your expected value should be at least $270 before you even consider going in with a standard sized bankroll.

This is all very formal, though. If you have a couple grand to blow and want to gamble and have fun, then go for it. It's only money.

I like Step 2 buyins...Just preference; no stats to back it up...step 1's are boring; don't have BR for 3's...that easy

Step 1 isn't worth the time. If you played 4 in an hour for $12 and advanced 2(excellent result), you have made $110 worth of entry for $48. More likely results are 33% conversion for a good player.
Step 2 is good for me right now. Step 3 was a little volatile for me.
The bottom line is- you have to have reasonable (not winning) results at step 5 or you are wasting your time.

Unless you get a big thrill out of playing a step 5. (I would). Money isn't everything, after all.

A side benefit to Step play is the ability to brag about extraordinary "R.O.I.'s"....(in my case, more than 400%); then, when Irieguy & others of his ilk ask about the "sample size" (poised as they are to pounce on the innocent), I just lie & tell them "more than 1000 SnG's"

Lol, for the longest time I wasn't playing any SnG's at all. Then I learned of the steps and was immeidately in love with them. So of course, if it weren't for my one win in step 5, I'd have a pretty depressing ROI. But it's getting better!

One great thing about the step game is you can make money without ever winning.

I have a Step 5 freeroll that I would like to sell if I could. This is not a scam and would be willing to give someone my # to talk about it. I am a regular player that needs some cash and would like to sell this rather than remove from my bankroll. ty
