How do you guys play this, normally? Also include the stakes you play.

I know your answer will be dependant, so let's assume (for a start) that you are near the CO and somebody raises from MP.

My instincts as of late are to cold-call, but I feel like this is the wrong way to approach it. I'd like to hear responses.

3-bet usually and never coldcall. AQo is probably a better hand to 3-bet an MP open raiser with then 99 at lower limits. 99 is a better hand to 3-bet with in general if you are playing above any limit that party spreads.

Okay, let's assume .5/1 to 2/4

How to play 99? Three-bet?

At the same token, I tend to fold 88 to a raise. Is this correct?

I probably would not 3-bet 99 unless the players are pretty loose and it is a good game.
I would call a raise with 88 (depending on my position) cause if you hit on the flop you could get paid off nicely.

Both these hands are opponent specific. I could fold either of them preflop or 3 bet either of them. I would never coldcall with the AQo and I might with the 99 depending on how many others were in the pot. 88 is not much different than 99 so I cannot agree it is an always fold.
