View Full Version : Anyone know of a good stock newsletter?

I want to find good small-cap stocks, and I want someone else to do the initial screening for me.

The reason I ask is that I recently tried a free trial of motley fool's Hidden Gems newsletter. They seem to have a good orientation: find stocks with great fundamentals that arent covered by the financial media. Supposedly their portfolio has returned >40% since inception 1 1/2 years ago.

I don't really trust them, though. Here's why. <Begin.Rant> Two months ago they recommended CRYP (cryptologic gaming) as a way of profiting from the popularity of poker. Then they ignored all the big potential problems with it. You can argue about whether CRYP is a good investment, but the arguments against include the dominance of Party Poker, and the Ebay effect (people play at PP because more people play there, despite poor customer support), the perception that their software is slow, and the possibility that poker could peak in popularity. None of these were mentioned.

On the plus side, though, apparently CRYP has engineered "skins" which allow players from different casinos to play at the same tables, a unique innovation which no other online poker site uses. </sarcasm> </End.Rant>

Anybody know of a newsletter or site that has a similar orientation but more competent research?

really, i don't think anyone will do well for the long term in the market by following someone elses research.

Like I said in my post, I don't expect to blindly follow someone else's picks. But there are thousands of stocks out there, and it's difficult to do research on most of the smaller ones. I just want someone to do some pre-screening to narrow the list of candidates.
