I suppose nobody forgot to tell the committe who are doing this thing that we're in 2005 and not 1965

argh

This is so disgusting.

Hey, I know, instead of getting an influential figure in the American music industry, let's get an old fogey that hasn't had a hit in a couple of decades, and on top of that let's get an old fogey that never watches American football!

Awesome!

I don't know man.... I copied some songs from my Dad's ipod into mine. I came across the song "Rinse the Raindrops" off the Driving Rain CD... man he can still rock.

And probably garunteed not to have a wardrobe malfunction.

I'm not arguing the fact he can still rock.

Clayton, wtf are you suggesting? I think this is fine.

Janet Jackson was hardly contemporary. Many of the audience were alive in 1965. I guarantee that more of the audience recognise these songs than last year.

Best half-time show I've seen in a while.

What, did you want more Black Eyed Peeholes?

I wanted to suggest to my dad that Alizee should've been the halftime show person. Then I remembered that he and the majority of the rest of the watchers wouldn't know who she was and wouldn't be able to understand what she was saying.

To put it bluntly, an old british rocker would not be on my list of candidates for the halftime show of a super bowl.

But I'm younger, so I can see how my way of thinking is probably slanted. But I gotta think so much of this has to do with the FCC and Janet Jackson.

And to answer the question of, "Well, who'd YOU put in there, Clayton", I'd probably put Bruce Springsteen, Toby Keith, and Usher. Nice mix, and they all know what American football is.

Best halftime show ever. I'd rather see a true professional like McCartney than some snot-nosed kid who can't be bothered to lipsynch properly.

Have you heard any of the recent performances by contemporary artists at football games? Most of them are terrible.

Nobody gives a crap about the halftime show anyway.

Last year's was decent until, well, you know

And the year before that it was Britney + Justin + Aerosmith

They've sorta always sucked.

Dude.

You are so wrong on this! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Clearly one of the best half time shows in a while.

McCartney definetly rocks. (And I'm young, too. But I also have Albinoni and Vivaldi on my dell ipod...)

I can't agree with this more. I felt honored to be able to see Paul McCartney play live. I'm 25 and have always been jealous that I was too young to have experienced the Beatles. My generation sucks.

That halftime show was TREMENDOUS and I was never a Beatles fan. But he actually sang and did a fantastic job. Best one ever except for perhaps U2 (and I don't like them much either, but they did rock the hell out of the Superdome).

I'm young too (21). I still understand good music when I see it. Having McCartney on is, perhaps, the best move they've done in awhile. I mean, anyone that doesn't like the Beatles is stupid IMO.

I hav eno idea what you're talking about.

This was musically the best halftime show in years.

I'm sure you'd rather see nubile girls lip synching, but I'll take real music any day of the week.

Ray Zee
02-07-2005, 01:22 AM
he is an icon of music. and still commands the respect of all. one of the few times to ever see him live and he was great. this is something that you can remember forever rather than someone or group that will be washed up in two years.

Who alive has made more of an impact on music and culture in general? Who has sold more records, or written more number one hits? He was the cog of the greatest and most influential band ever and still performs well.

tdarko
02-07-2005, 01:41 AM
what it has to do with is do you want a shitty performer or someone who will at least not lip-synch and sing a few classics. i mean would you rather have ashlee simpson? or some other pop piece of [censored]. and if you think he hasnt had a hit in 20 years you need to check your facts.

Zeno

All us old geezers liked the halftime show.

'Get Back' is one of my favorite Beatles tunes. Paul did a good selection of songs. All in all, very well done.

i think you are alone on this one clayton, clearly a great move to have him perform. what was your favorite song he did? mine was "live and let die." although all were well done.

Paul McCartney's/The Beatles' music is timeless. I didn't see the show, but I'm assuming that he didn't perform anything from The Beatles of the 60's. You were probably looking for around 1992.

Actually it was pretty much all Beatles stuff. Heres the playlist if IIRC

Drive my Car
Get Back
Live and Let Die
Hey Jude

I think thats all, but there may have been somethign else ... I can't remember.

tdarko
02-07-2005, 02:04 AM
nah not really it was cool though cause he spread it around, drive my car from the sixties, hey jude from late sixties to early seventies, get back from around that time too and then live and let die. good show

It would've been cool if Axl came out during Live and Let Die. As such, it was pretty lame.

This was the best halftime show since U2 in 2001 (I know that isn't saying much).

I prefer that they get one big name to do the show (even if it is someone I wouldn't normaly listen to) rather than the mish mosh of the lattest pop crap that they have done the past few years.

This was my problem with the whole thing, not whether he's good or bad. That's a matter of taste. My issue was that he just didn't fit. The Superbowl is American. We had the military tribute. We had a whole red, white & blue theme going. So we bring out an old British hippie?

I actually like McCartney, but he just seemed a very odd choice. I also thought it was kind of funny when he yelled "sing it people", and it was pretty quiet. No one seemed to know the words to Hey Jude.

"Drive My Car" is the best song of the best Beatles album (Rubber Soul). That and it's energetic, has a sweet opening riff, and can get the crowd rockin'.

I'd differentiate between American culture and American Pop-Culture. Or maybe even American Pop Music. You do bring up a good point though. But it still doesn't feel right.

Jack of Arcades
02-07-2005, 12:37 PM
Meh, I dunno. I think most people associate the 60s with American culture in general; it was a big turning point when it came to distrust of the government, a big civil movement that seemed like America blossomed and there was a greater understanding - or at least a greater interest - in things going on in the world. The Beatles were a big part of that, or at least a significant part of the soundtrack of that time.

EDIT: But then again I don't really think of McCartney as a Brit. And I don't think of the Superbowl as American.
