View Full Version : Open challenge update (screwed a chasing fish!)

07-18-2002, 01:03 AM
Update on my open challenge:

start 7/16/2002, 3:42am, $40, .50-1

end 7/16/2002, 4:27am, $49, .50-1

start 7/17/2002, 9:05pm, $49, .50-1

end 7/17/2002, 9:57pm, $73, .50-1

Latest session had one hand where I raised JJ after 2 limpers in BB, 75o limped on river, called my raise. Flopped J96, turn a 6, and river 8 gave the chaser a straight! ARGG... RIVERED AGAIN! /images/wink.gif Anyways, capped and won a $20 pot. /images/smile.gif

Mike Haven: I've played 2 tables both times. Most of the time, 1 of those tables was shorthanded, which was quite profitable at times. This is within the rules right! /images/smile.gif

going well - you should win the challenge in about seven hours at that rate!!

as long as you started with $20 on each table i guess we'll allow it while we're feeling our way into the idea! /images/wink.gif

Just wondering, what made you fold this? Raise and a re-raise with only 2 players? If it was only one bet, you'll getting great odds! Especially implied odds considering you can use the preflop raiser to check-raise if you hit the flop. Anyways, good luck! /images/smile.gif

thanks for your comments, tony

there was an early limper and a middle raiser so i looked at it that i was getting only 4.5 to 1 on a 7 to 1 shot, with the early limper possibly turning into a re-raiser and the raiser possibly capping

if the limper had been the raiser and the raiser been a caller i might have called on the implied odds basis

having said that though, i admit i'm not a great fan of middle to low pairs in a raised pot, especially from very early position

i've read both of your posts in the past, tony and mike, and you two seem to be knowledgeable about the game of poker. so why do you waste your time playing micro limit poker when you could be making some real money playing higher? i mean even if you're killing these games you are only making a couple bucks an hour tops.

i don't mean to criticize, i'm just curious. have you ever tried bigger games?

Well, this is the open challenge! Read the rules /images/wink.gif

Anyways, I don't play high limits much. Maybe 3-6 tops, usually 1-2 or 2-4, or the NL HE and PL O8 games on Paradise. Play a little higher sometimes on other sites, sometimes up to 5-10, rarely 10-20 if the game seems really good.

Not a pro or anything, do this for one word, F-U-N!
