Okay, seriously, I have to be playing something drastically wrong or something. If we discount the $7.5k $15/30 run the first week or two of the year... I'm now down approximately $5,500 excluding bonuses and rakeback on the year playing $15/30, $5/10, and now $3/6... including this recent $1,350 downswing at $3/6.

Something is seriously [censored] wrong with my game... it must be. There is simply no way I am losing this much. I felt I might have been too LAG postflop so I toned that done... then this bs downswing came and now I don't know wtf is going on. Did I move to weak? Argh, I don't know anymore... Help?

Read David Ross' whole thread (20 pages) in General, you are not alone.

Edit: The 510 BB one, not the 99.4% one.

I've also had a crappy 2005 so far. -$292 in January (even with $685 in bonii) and down another $25 in February after $250 in bonii.

If anyone cares... PT stats for this funness...

No idea why I put all the hands, but whatever. One thing I do notice is that for the low VPIP and PFR I have, I sure am not getting a high W$WSF%... hrm, wtf is going on here?

Think I'm taking the rest of the great Friday night off and reading... Maybe won't play tomorrow either. God, I hate poker.

12.5% is pretty darn tight.

This got me wondering: is there anything mathematically magical about the 300BB rule of thumb that most people quote? I.e. if you're a +1.5BB/100 player in the long run, what are the odds that you'll hit a -300BB swing and 'bust out'?

It seemed really [censored] tight to me too... Looking at this database (which is only 12,289 hands) I'm 13% VPIP 7.8% PFR... I dunno... I've stopped limping KTs and sometimes QTs in UTG+1 and UTG+2.... as well as KJo, QJo and lower after a strong limper or two. But these seem like good ideas, so I don't know =\ So I've probably tightened up a bit (I believe I am like 17-18% VPIP 8.5-9% PFR lifetime, but don't have the stats in front of me. I'm not sure if aggroing up is what I need though.

Something is needed though...

I actually think this whole thing has made me tighter and less aggro... not sure if that's a good thing. No idea if I'm ready to aggro it up though. Argh, I really hate poker. Off to read SSH (ah [censored] its packed). No, I'm just gonna hang around here and bitch some more.

Okay, no problemo.

[censored], damn SSH is packed away... time to "play" I guess? Can't be good, but oh well. I'll cut out 4 tables so I don't completely kill myself and hopefully can't lose too much.

So, for $5/hour, I'll come and watch you play whenever I can.

Seriously man, take some time off from your regular game, you know you're not playing your best game right now. Do something you enjoy other than poker. Watch a movie or a game, read a book, sleep, whatever, do something to get your mind off of poker for awhile, then go back to the games when you've more or less been able to get your downswing out of your head. If you insist on still playing poker, at least try a change of pace for a while below your normal stakes, like low buyin NL/SNGs/7 card stud just to work of steam. I think if you keep on playing now first off you will likely be tilting, and in addition every bad beat/2nd best hand will just get to you much more than it normally does. hope that helps

TheMetetron
02-05-2005, 11:06 AM
Yeah, you guys are right. I must be tilting at this point at least a bit. Even if it is only marginally affecting my game (and I really think it is marginally, if at all), that can be huge long-run. Not to mention the physocological [censored] that puts on my mind. Moving today should help, Superbowl on Sunday. I'll come back Monday refreshed....

Met i see you at the 3/6 tables a lot and can honestly say i've never seen you step out of line. I think swings are just tough, and thats what this is.

Actually, i've only got 250 hands on you, but from those hands you are 13.2/6/1.7 and 70%W$@SD, but at (5.58)bb/100 - this looks like you've been unlucky over the ridiculously short term at my tables.

And 5k hands is nothing, keep at it. Swings like this are common 8-tabling. I dropped 100BB 2 days ago, then made it back and then some in 1 sitting yesterday.

yes I also have him with solid numbers at $3-6...you just seem to be running very poorly /images/graemlins/frown.gif Take some time off and get back at it...things will turn around for you soon.

Thanks guys, just got moved in and things are semi-settled down around here, finally! I'm taking the rest of today off, probably. Might play a little after the Super Bowl but I still have a ton of stuff to go buy.

Anyways, thanks guys for the support.

Metetron you play solid postflop but you need to loosen up PF. VPIP 12 is too damn low for this game. You should try to get it up to 18.
