Ok, this isnt the best one but its good; The final shootout in the movie Fulltime Killer. By far the coolest idea for a shootout.

The Replacement Killers set some kind of record for number of rounds fired I think, plus Mira Sorvino was hot. Don't remember the movie too well though.

maybe the bar in desperado?

I thought the OK corral in Tombstone was awesome.

They're not sitting there like they can't be hit and that bullets don't matter - the Clanton's and Earps are sweating to death in those final seconds before the gunfire starts...trying to persuade themselves and the other side of the best course of action - - (before doc. Holliday screws it all up - in the film anyways...heh) -

and then they're firing, and the smoke is so thick you can barely see your target (typical for rounds of the day) - guys getting hit but not really going down so they're getting shots back and wounding others -

that whole movie rocked...esp. Val Kilmer's portrayl of Doc. Holiday.

heat was good.
bar scene in 'desperado' was good.
i really liked the shootout at the end of 'grosse pointe blank'
final minutes of 'unforgiven', for sheer badassness
matrix one was cool, but not that amazing, IMHO
'Scarface' finale, that was good.

and although it's more of a 'showdown' than a 'shootout'
i still have to go with the three way at the end of TG,TB,&TU

edit: forgot about the professional! awesome shootout!
'bring me everybody. EVERYBODY!'

Everyone who said the matrix; have you seen any older john woo films? Im not talking about crappy ones like Face Off. Movies like Hard Boiled have very kick ass shootouts with lots of inoscent people getting pwninated.

There were some good ones in "The Killer", but I am going to go with the final scene of "The Wild Bunch". I may change my mind, there are so many good ones to choose from.

Open Range, the Kevin Costner/Robert Duvall western from last year had an excellent shoot out at the end of the film.

T1 when Arnold goes into the police station and starts shooting the cops.

The Crow - scene in the Church.

Equilibrium had some decent shootouts, but I think the best "shooutout" is at the end when they're trying to get clear shots on each other but keep knocking each other's guns away.

Also, the scene where he moves through the hallway to get to the office right beforehand is kind of cool.

Actually for anybody who likes guns, I think it's fair to say you might find it a cool movie. Yay Gun Kata.

It's not the best for actual gunplay and whatnot, but the final shootout from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Newman and Redford with them holed up, running around for ammo, and then eventually making the suicidal charge is a great scene.

The scene in The Good the Bad and the Ugly where the trio face off in the center of the graveyard.

Which follows another great scene with Tuco running through the graveyard reading headstones with Ecstacy of Gold playing in the background.
