View Full Version : screw the open challenge
Got to 79.75 and got busted back down to $65....
this sucks...LOL...
don't know what's worse...getting rivered runner runner st8 or knowing that it's gotta get a bit better in the higher limits before it gets toughter.
I'll say this for .50/1.00 poker...we're talking amateur hour every day of the week, kids.

woooh - close, man!
i'm too embarrassed to talk about what happened to me yesterday yet - maybe later
made it to level 2 with about $9 to spare ($6 after catching a PP in the BB right before I was gonna bail)

note the lesson learned here....in .50/1.00 - players will call with ANYTHING - (coolson called 2 bets cold with 24 offsuit and flopped two pair and went to the river for it -
that's why my play may read a bit more passive - I wasn't sure and quite frankly, there was more money to be made from them betting their bluffs then me betting my hand.
On to $1/$2

Hi Mike Haven,
About the open challenge, can we play 5-max tables? Anyways, just started, at $50 now from $40, in about 30 minutes, playing 2 .50-1 tables! We are allowed to play 2 tables at once, right?
Anyways, the Open Challenge is fun, maybe you should repost the rules for those who missed it! It's great not to take poker so seriously. /images/smile.gif

thanks for your interest, Tony
as you say - it's a bit of fun - if you are usually a 20-40 player it will let you see how the other half live, if nothing else! give it an hour or so whenever you have spare time, in between your serious poker sittings
here are the "rules" as per original post - add to them as you see fit (it occurred to me that if no one makes it in july we should all start again on a level playing field in august, etc, to keep the competitive feel about it - otherwise late joiners will never catch up with whiskeytown!):-
open internet hold'em challenge july 2002
here are the basic "rules" - add any suggestions to them as you like, below
you have to start in the 50c-$1 games at paradise with a "separate" bankroll of $40
as soon as you have made $40 you move up to the $1-$2 games
as soon as you make $80 you move up to the $2-$4 games
as soon as you make $80 you move up to the $3-$6 games
as soon as you make $160 you move up to the $5-$10 games
as soon as you make $400 you move up to the $10-$20 games
as soon as you make $400 you move up to the $15-$30 games
as soon as you make $400 you move up to the $20-$40 games
as soon as you make $400 you win the open challenge if you are the first to post here that you have completed the challenge
your bankroll will now be $2000 - buy yourself a silver cup and get it inscribed "open internet hold'em challenge winner july 2002"
any time you lose more than the amount made at the previous level you can choose whether or not to drop back to that level to rebuild your bankroll or to keep playing at that level
if you lose your entire bankroll you must start again with a new $40 at 50c-$1
obviously, the challenge is only a bit of fun and self-refereed on a mutual trust basis - but if you don't mind posting interesting hands encountered and keeping us informed of your progress it will be all the more interesting for the rest of us
i've had a couple of dry runs and i did make it to the $1-$2 tables once
the $20-$40 boys will love to watch us coming to get them, i'm sure
(although no sane person would think this harebrained scheme had anything to do with 2+2, to please mason: this harebrained scheme has nothing to do with 2+2)
