Yesterday I was sitting at the final table of a no limit hold em
tournament with 4 other players. I am the 3 seat and I am chip
leader. The 8 seat and the 2 seat have close to 2/3 my chips and
the 9 seat has about 1/4 of my chips at most. The blinds are
1500 and 1000 and I'm dealt A-Qo on the button. The player in
front of me calls and raise to 4000. The 8 seat raises me all in
the 9 seat drops and the 2 seat calls his all in with a slightly
less chips. Before I act I think carefully whether or not I
should lay it down. My reason being one of them is pretty much
out after this hand locking me into at least 3rd place and after
the hand I'll still have a big edge on the 9 seat and have about
3/4 of the chip leaders chips. However I figure if I call and
win this hand the tournament is pretty much mine, and if should
lose I'll still be at least 3rd place with a good chance to take
2nd and a big long shot to winning. I decide to call also. I'd
like advice for what I should have done on the pre-flop play.
Should I have raised the blind? Should I have called the all in
raise? But I'll tell you the results now anyway. The 8 seat
turns over J-J and the 2 seat turns over K-Jo. Before the flop
my A-Qo is close to even money to win the pot. The board didn't
help anybody and the pocket jacks take it down knocking out the
2 seat taking 2/3 of my chips giving the 8 seat who had J-J
total control. He went on to win and I caught a bad beat a few
hands later and ended up with 3rd. Should I have raised? Should
I have called the re-raise?
