I have had marginal success lately betting the don't pass line and then placing odds when a 4 or 10 is rolled on the come out. If a 6 or 8 is rolled I then take the bet and place it on the pass line. If a 5 or 9 is rolled I then leave the money on the don't pass line with no odds. How bad is this strategy and does anyone have any other suggestions?

This is really bad. When a 6 or 8 point is established, you're giving up an even-money bet in which YOU have the advantage for an even-money bet in which the house has the advantage.

When you play don't, the "hard" part is the come out roll. If you get past that, you have the advantage since there are more ways for 7 to come than any possible point. Why would you give that up?

In this case odds don't really matter either way since you get the correct payout for them. Taking or laying them always lowers the house edge (though it never flips it to your favor).

So I should leave it on the don't pass regardless of the point and place whatever odds that I am comfortable with? Also does anyone have any specific advice on lay bets?

Let me know when you want to pull that 6 or 8 don't pass bet. I'll just "buy" it off you.

Yes. Never, ever, ever EVER take your don't bets down after the point is established. The *only* reason the casino even lets you do this in the first place is that the bet is to *your* advantage at that point.

Someone has been reading Gambling for a Living. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes, regardless of whether you are playing the pass or the don't, you should leave your bet on the established number and play the odds you are comfortable with as the odds are the only good bet on a craps table. The more you put on odds, the lower you are making the hosue edge overall.

No, never read it. Is this "play" mentioned in there? I posted about it in an older thread about "is craps beatable?" a while back.

I believe it is in there. I just know that Sklansky talks about it in one of his books as the only true +EV play on a craps table.
