RE: Introducing myself (no questions yet)

Hello Gentlemen (and Ladies),

I have been reading the forums for a couple month or so and posting a bit as "sgw" but decided it just didn't work for me. Thus I started a new account and my live table moniker is now my call sign.

I have played home based poker sporadically for the last 10 years or so. However, I recently started a weekly "Gentlemen's Poker League", which has 15 of my friends as members.

Additionally, I have been voraciously taking in the 2+2 literature after a number of beginner books. I also bought Poker Academy Pro (Poki) over Christmas and have been working out my 6-max and ring game. I returned to school in the last couple of years (child psychology research) and thus I am fairly tight for cash so I haven't gone online yet, as I think I have a lot to learn before paying additional money for the lessons (other than books/program expense).

In the next couple of months, after much more 2+2 research and reading I hope to go online and also get out to the local casino low limit tables. Once I can get a bankroll together, there is a 2-4 table that would be good to break in my public game but I have my eye on the 4-8 figuring the rake might not do so much damage.

Anyway, I am amazed at the community that is present here at 2+2, beyond all the great info. Thanks for all the great posts so far.

Cheers to all,
The Real Macoy

just a comment ; if i were starting out i would stay away from 4/8 unles you have the 300 bigbet bank roll to support it($2400). the rake at 2/4 is a consideration, but if you are starting out i would start at 2/4 before you expose yourself to the variance at 4/8. it is very easy to lose 150 @ my local card room playing 3/6 against the worst players. sometimes it just goes that way. that would convert to 200 @ 4/8 or 100 @ 2/4. not to be naegative, but i reccomended the opposite to a friend before her finances , experience, or bankroll could support it and she has lost her bankroll and desire to get back on the horse.

Bud,

thanks for heads-up.
i think i will stick to the lower limit.
it will be awhile to build up enough scratch anyway.

Another option would be to start in the micro-limits online. The micro limits forum has a sticky post here (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1659321&page=0&view=colla psed&sb=5&o=93&fpart=1) that will get you started, also check out Homer's post on building a bankroll online. (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=inet&Number=1060198&fpart= &PHPSESSID=) You can start really low, and by the time you are playing .50/1 you will have the skills to keep from getting eaten alive at 2/4 live.

Welcome to the forum.
