View Full Version : Is Haiku acceptable chatter.

I get bored so I type in comments to post to the game at appropriate times. Like 'Pow what a very nice hand' and wait for just the right spot. So I thought Haiku poetry is short and full. And so I typed in: 'Even though I have no sweetheart, Rejoice at the change of garments. Onitsura/poet'. From a book of Haiku. The response was, 'what the f.... is that'. I feel it was a valid poker play. I think.

Beats the crap out of spam or calling people who win with bad cards names. Go for it.

I like pretending to be a bot sometimes by sitting there silent for a few minutes, then typing something like "::initiate chat sequence" then continue typing 'nh' or 'vnh' or 'ty' at random times.

That is nice and reminds me of my time above the Arctic Circle. Ten long years of just like that.

Daryn held aces.

His opponent held
kings. The screaming I heard came
by way of the flop

I am reading this forum and thread to alleviate boredom while single tabling at this very moment. As a matter of fact, the reason I came to this forum was to start a thread about boredom and paying attention to the game, but I will leave the details of that to it's own thread. This one is all about you, and Haiku, and things to write in the chat box while playing, as well it should be. -TomBk

Valid poker play, perhaps. But isn't that one syllable short of a valid haiku?

English haiku is traditionally, but not necessarily, arranged in 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

Very funny, you should add ::deactivate chat after you are done typing random nh lol, vnh etc.

Personally, I prefer the traditional form.

I find the rigidly imposed structure which restricts the allowable words oftentimes leads to a more whimsical composition; and it is the often the coming together of structure and whimsy that creates the beauty of a well crafted Haiku.

I think most players reading the chat box at the typical online poker table would appreciate the extra effort required to conform to the traditional form.
