10-20 Hold'em Casino game,

A new table has just opened up and I am seat 3 UTG for the first hand dealt. I get A-Q offsuit. I decide to limp. (Yes, I know this is a controversial play UTG, but let's not focus on that with this particular post.) Seat 4 is empty, a lady in seat 5 then raises to make it twenty. Everyone folds to the BB who calls and I call. Flop comes A-J-2 rainbow.

I've played a couple of times with the lady before. She seems to be a chasing/calling station at most and plays far too many hands. However, since we have just sat down and this being the first hand dealt I had nothing much of read on her at this point.

BB checks, I check, lady bets. BB calls, I check-raise. Now the lady starts fidgeting with her chips and looks at the flop. She looks as if she wants to raise but doesn't. Instead she just calls.

Turn comes an offsuit 4 completing the rainbow. BB checks, I bet. Now the lady raises. BB folds.

What should I do?

Results later.

i understand you dont want to have this post be full of people saying "raise preflop" but it changes how the later rounds develop. if the lady behind you flat called, you can narrow out some powerhouse hands. if she raises you, you can narrow out some possible connecting hands and lower pocket pairs.

anyways

if you're so sure that she wanted to raise the flop, i'd check on the turn. the 4 can't help her, so you are basically value betting at a calling station who wants to raise.

i'd fold as calling stations don't raise here with AT or Jx, and there are no powerful draws on the board.

when she is looking to raise the flop it appears that she is holding a weaker ace. continue betting on the turn, but once she raises its quite apparent she flopped 2pair/set and therefore you should fold.

do you think calling stations will raise preflop with a weaker ace and consider 3 betting a flop check raise with it?

Why do you think she has a weak ace when she is considering three betting a flop check raise?

Fold.

The tell is very reliable for most average opponents.

Lawrence : It is good you posted on this thread. This hand never happened to me. In fact, it happened to you. You posted it on twoplustwo years ago, and as I was looking through the archives (the older archives) I came across.

The advice from 5 years ago was the same as today.
