View Full Version : Online 3-6 versus potential steal attempt

06-26-2002, 09:33 PM
I'm "hero", and defend against "nemesis's" open-steal attempt from late position. Wondering if I played this right! Should I have folded? I think it was either check-raise, or bet out on the flop, or check-fold. Check-calling is wrong. Once I decided to check-raise, I have to call his re-raise. Was his re-raise correct? He should have folded! Then I check the turn, and he bets again! Very brave of him, was my call correct? He seems to be a decent player, aggressive, most likely capable of stealing. I've seen him reraise an open-raise from late position preflop a few times, and he's won a few hands without showing down. Thanks!

You played it great. He made a terrible 3-bet on the flop. He will lose a lot of money to Ax if he keeps playing like this.

Don't worry about it, keep playing well.

Hi Paul,

I suspected didn't play it badly, just needed some assurance. /images/wink.gif I posted this after a horrible losing streak against three players playing like huge fish (down almost $200 within 1-2 hours at $3/$6). (Nemesis wasn't one of the fish). One fish busted out $150 or so, the other two went from $100 to $300+!

$200 is a big loss but with 60 hands an hour on-line it will happen. You may have leaks, but they certainly were not in evidence in this particular hand. I'd check elsewhere. If your on-line site has play statistics (%time seeing the flop, etc) that would be a decent place to start.

Without question I agree

He made a terrible 3-bet on the flop. He will lose a lot of money to Ax if he keeps playing like this.

I dunno. If he thinks BB would 3-bet a good ace versus a potential steal that limits the likelyhood of A-x. Obviously he read BB for no ace.

In most cases he has 7 or 10 outs here (plus backdoor flush), so the bet isn't directly correct, but it may be correct for information and to allow a free card on the turn if wanted. Once the turn pairs him he is in to the river since he reads you for no ace.

Now, Buttons read of "no ace" might nave been questionable, but given that was his (correct) read, the other play was acceptable.

I think both played fine. Nemesis sure has some big...ummm...guts though.
