I was in tears watching him and Jason Alexander min re-raise eachother like 5 times pre flop... Then, by the time the turn comes the pot is about 5,000... Jason checks... Chris bets $200. LOL!

Then Jason re-raises him 400, and Chris re-raises back to 600!

WTF is going on! hahaha

This is ridiculous.

LOL! Chris just called a $1,000 bet with J2 on a Q83 board. How did he even get on the show?

I can't wait to watch it later tonight (don't spoil the ending!). I have to think the celebs just contact the producer and ask to be on the show. There aren't any satellites or anything.

No offense but all of the celeberities with some rare exceptions completely stink at Poker! I would think they would at least pay some attention at the pre-show clinics with Phil Gordon. /images/graemlins/ooo.gif
I'm also amazed how Phil Gordon handles himself while he witnesses his favorite game being so degraded!

Guys, seriously. I know most of them "don't have a clue", but I would bet everything I own that Chris Kattan had absolutely noooooooo idea what was going on. He made Dennis Rodman look like Lederer.

It was as if you took a person who's never even seen poker on TV and said "here, come play this game, we aren't going to tell you the rules, just pretend like you already know them."

It was seriously that bad... and he made it extremely funny. It was like watching Doug Butabi or Corky Ramono play.

Believe me or not, but I actually ran over to my sink and threw up at one point I was laughing so hard. You may not find it as funny, but some of those things caught me off guard and I lost it.

Phil Gordon, in a serious tone, "Well, that was quite a cavalier call by Chris" as Chris calls with J2... /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It's on again at 1am, can't wait.

Why would I be offended? These clinics or whatever that Phil does is probably about 30 minutes to an hour and likely they don't pay attention, and really what are they going to learn in that time frame? Phil has indeed lost his cool with some plays before and I'm sure if he had his way he'd have a field day, but I guess he knows its for charity, they aren't poker players, so he can't really bash them too much.

I remember when Rodman was on...at least he was a maniac, which gave him a halfway decent chance because he had folding equity when he would raise 10xBB with bottom pair. Kattan is just a calling station, and a betting station when first to act (I swear he couldn't remember from one hand to the next that he was allowed to check). For a while I thought Jason Alexander was going to slide his chair next to him and look at his cards so he could help him play his hands.

haha, the absolute proof that Chris had absolutely no ungodly idea what was going on... He wins the pot with pocket queens (the first time he got them), everyone is saying "great chris! good job" etc... he then points to the small stack of chips in front of him and says "yeah, but look, it doesn't even matter now"... he didn't know that when you won the pot, the chips in the middle become your chips. WOW!

Look - Kattan was awful - but for a celebrity, Nick Gonzales was a good player. He just didn't get enough cards at the right time.

Jason Alexander seemed pretty good as well. Seems like he spends time in casinos. He looked pretty solid at blackjack too. Just a bit too much gambool in him, but with those stacks and blind structure your going to need to gamble to win.

It was funny last night when the woman showing off her new-mom cleavage had Phil's little book of 20 tips at the table. After Kattan got knocked out Phil was ragging on Chris in the loser's lounge when the woman was looking at the tip book and told him "There's 20 tips in that book that even you could have understood, if you had bothered to READ them."

I noticed that Phil hasn't called any of the celebrities an idiot this season, even when they grossly underbet the pot (ala Kattan) or fail to call when they are getting huge pot odds (like some woman in last week's episode). Last year, Jeff Gordon (the NASCAR driver) folded to a bet of a few hundred chips with several thousand in the pot and Gordon just freaked out and called him an idiot.

If they had a table of the 5 worst celebrity poker players ever, Chris Kattan would be on it. My 5 worst would be: Kattan, Scott Stapp (I think I'm God but I can't read the board), Dennis Rodman (I'll bet 5x the pot with a gutshot draw but fold when I have trips), Daniel Baldwin (You really shouldn't be high when appearing on national TV playing a game for charity), Fred Willard (I need my wife to sweat me-let's just let her play).

There are two more strong contenders to that list. One was a guy from CSI/Miami that was knocked out in the 1st hand - (what happened is below). Another was Jeff Garlin from last season, who folded when he could have checked around 5 times - and had to say "Czechoslovakia" to get himself to remember not to do that.

[ QUOTE ]
BTW - Adam Rodriguez (CSI Miami) replaced Scott Stapp as the worst Celebrity Poker player ever.

Based on my recollection, this was his one and only hand:

Star Jones acted first - called. Rodriguez raised on a QT offsuit. Norm MacDonald had KJ suited - called the raise. Other two folded - Jones called the raise.

Flop: KQJ rainbow. Rodriguez hesistated - seemed lost, then bet $2000 (started with $1000). McDonald called. Jones (wisely) folded.

Turn: (this is where my memory is fuzzy) - some low card. Rodriguez bet again (again, seeming lost on what to do). MacDonald called.

River: J. Rodriguez checked. MacDonald went all in with his full house. After stumbling for 30 seconds, and being egged on by the crowd, Rodriguez called the all in. First player in Celebrity Poker Showdown history to be knocked off in the first hand.

Phil Gordon on Rodriguez - "There's nothing I can say about it except that was terrible."

He's playing in week 5 of Celebrity Showdown this season (Heather Graham and Andrea Parker are on that week). Hopefully his wife stays away and he gets bounced early - I don't want to see him play.

Chris Kataan was more annoying than funny. He was the idiot at the poker table who bets every street of every hand combined with the idiot at the poker table who can't keep track of what the hell is going on during the game.

He made a couple of funny jokes, but overall he came off as a douchebag, IMO.

As an aside, I had NO clue that Mary McCormack from the West Wing could be so hot. On that show (the best drama on TV, by the way), they make her out to be a highly intelligent, but completely non-sexual type.

It's amazing how much better a girl can look when she lets her hair down. Or maybe it was just the pregnancy boobs.

The best straight line of the night came when she called Kattan down on the river with just an A high, and Phil Gordon said something to the effect of "she's calling him down without a pair" as the camera was focused for the umpteenth time on her preganancy boobs. But Dave Foley didn't take the bait.

If any other person did that, I too would be annoyed. But the fact that it was Chris and he was trying so hard to make it look like he knew what he was doing (I loved the *wink*)... ahhh... well... Maybe you had to see Night At The Roxbury to fully appreciate that episode. Watching Doug Butabi min-raise $200 into a $5,000 pot was priceless.

It's Chris Kataan. It's Celebrity Poker. It's supposed to be more entertaining than anything. He was playing the role well, but it did get excessively stupid at times. Are they really drinking alcoholic beverages at the table?

Most of them are drinking. In the first season of CPS, all 5 winners had been drinking some adult beverages.

Yes. Lots of poker players drink at the table. Hell, Men the Master got loaded playing for a WSOP bracelet in stud, so why wouldn't celebrities drink in a silly event like CPS?
