Hi everyone,

I had to pay a visit to the liquor store tonight, since I only had enough Jack Daniels for one drink.

Before I got to the liquor store I contemplated buying something new. I read a recent post on whisky, and whiskey so I decided to try something new.

Maker's Mark whisky caught my eye. I asked a clerk in the store whose opinion I trusted about it and I decided to give it a go.

I have just started my second glass and I must say, I will replace this as my whisky of choice over Jack Daniels.

Good job by everyone who recommended this fine kentucky straight bourbon whisky. If anyone knows of a finer whisky, please enlighten me. Thanks /images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's my favorite too. I've heard Knob Creek is great as well, but it's more expensive IIRC.

The prices should be pretty close, maybe 3 or 4 bucks more...worth the extra couple bucks.

Makers and Knob Creek are similar in price, and IMO similar in quality. That said, they are quite different. Makers is softer and slightly sweeter tasting, due to the wheat in it. Knob Creek is more strongly flavored and more straightforward.

Makers and knob trade places as my everyday bourbon every so often. My overall favorite however is Bookers. At 126.7 proof (for the cask my current bottle came from), it's not for the faint of heart. The flavor is IMMENSE and amazingly good.

Other bourbons I've enjoyed recently are Woodford Reserve and Wild Turkey Rare Breed.

I just started my third glass, so I might try that next week /images/graemlins/tongue.gif What does IIRC mean?

I can usually find Knob Creek cheaper when it's on sale for around $22 or so. They're both good, but I think I prefer KC.

(Makin' my FP count!)

God, man, it's not even 4 o'clock (I thought you live on the west coast, but I could easily be mistaken). Anyways, if you do live in the west, you rock.

Don't you mean east?

Try Knob Creek next, it should be around $20/750ml. If you can find it, try the Pappy Van Winkle 15-year for something in the $35-40 range. (There are a lot of others around this price that you'll probably like.) Booker's will be closer to $50, but it's well worth it.

Isn't it earlier on the west coast.

I poured myself a glass of the Macallan Cask Strength around 8am today. Of course, I'd been up since 9pm, so it seemed like a reasonable time to start drinking.

Also, I forgot to mention, I really enjoy Jameson.

It's not bourbon, though.

Yes it is. But people tend to drink at night. The east coast has already gone home, and the west coast is still at work.

Current time in Boston is 7:13PM and in LA it's 4:13PM.

If you like Makers a lot, you should become an Ambassador and get yourself your very own barrel.

For those of you you who smoke cigars, what cigar do you feel compliments Mark Maker's whisky?

Mike Gallo

No, I did not start drinking until 4:30.

You have piqued my curiosity, how do I become an Ambassador.

With bourbon I like somthing rich with a lot of body and not to much spice so:

CAO's Brazilia line or Partagas limited reserve sound good....also a Butera Maduro if you can find em.

I'm pretty sure you can fill out a form on their website. They will send you the paperwork. The barrel gets your name on it and you get a plaque as well. If you want you can actually get the entire barrel after it's done aging. It's a pretty cool barrel and the a bar in my town has one on display. Since it's straight from the distillery and a prepayed barrel, the price isn't bad either. I do it with wine and I get bottles of wine that are normally $40 for about $5 a bottle.

I want some body. And I'm unoriginal.

Romeo y Julieta No.3 would be the lazyman's pick. Starts interesting, mellows out.

I sent in the card once and never heard anything. I guess I am such a degenerate they wouldn't let me join a whisky club. Or it got lost. Maybe I should try again. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I got a bottle of this from my Secret Santa in my office. It is just siting on my dresser, I have never tried it. I might have to crack it open to see if it is that good.
