I play online quite a bit.(5-10k hands per month) I understand that being a winning player at LLHE means you are winning somewhere between 2-5 BB/100. I go play in my local B & M's once or twice per week and I do ok playing the 3/6 or 4/8. But obviously you could never win any decent amount of money at that same BB/100 rate at a card room. So if 5BB/100 is all we can expect to win then how is it that one could win decent money at a B & M?

The problem w/ poker is that you can play flawlessly and still have a losing session.

More fish tend to play live games and in some cases you can up your win rate by increasing the number of pure fish you play with.

Most of the time, however, you don't have much of a choice in this matter; You show up at a card room and take what you can get.

At most poker tables, ~50$ leaves the table every orbit. 3$ rake, 1$ jackpot, 1+$ tip. By playing tight, you minimize this expense, but if money is leaving the table, you can't win it.

So the bottom line is that if you want to make any decent money you must play high limit games. So if you are going to play 3/6 or 4/8 just do it for fun, and leave the money making for the online games. This sound about right?

Actually, I would think that you could make just as many BB/100, if not more, at the B&M compared to online. However, your BB/hour will go down, if playing at the same stakes, as 100 hands online is a lot faster than 100 hands at the B&M.

i made a little les than $17 an hr playing 3/6 in a new card room this year. that would be the equivalant to over 8 bb/ 100. now of course the math guys will want to know that is over approx 10k hands. so it is no definitive win rate, but i think i can more at this b&m than i have had luck online.

Depends on what you consider decent money.

You could win 1-2 BB an hour playing 4/8 and that is decent money.

You could play in a kill game to increase the limits for certain pots, you could also jump to a 6/12, which isn't much tougher than a 4/8.

It also depends on the selection of games you have available to you.
