Just have a few questions before I go buy some.

Does the weight difference in chips matter at all?

What are factors that make some better than others?

Which ones do you recommend?

Weight is a factor. Casino chips are around 10g so shoot for that. Metal inserts (read all 11.5g chips) are considered kinda lame around here but might make you a hero somewhere else. Make sure to get some samples.

If this is your first buy I would get CHEAP ones until you figure out exactly what colors, denominations and amounts you really need for the kind of poker you play.

If you can swing it go to a couple casinos and get a bunch of different colored $1 chips. You can always return them for face value. Think of it as renting chips for free. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

request as many samples as possible. That will help to make your mind up.

I think www.5stardeal.com (http://www.5stardeal.com) has a 14 chip sample pack for a couple bucks. I bought some from them when trying to figure out a chip selection.

Thanks.

What do you mean by this?

They are just considered cheap for the most part. Most people don't like the coin sound.

Don't get me wrong tho, I had a set of them before and I now own THE absolute cheapest chips around to supplement my set for tourneys.

It just depends on your goals and budget. The new paulsons are the real deal and the same thing you would play with at a casino but they are a buck a piece.

I stick with what I said earlier tho. WHen I bought my first set i got the colors all wrong and the amounts WAY wrong for the kind of poker I play (limit holdem and split pot games). Get some cheapies at 5stardeal and play for a while with them.

The set I have now is a 500 piece set of the 11.5 g suited chips. I got a really good deal over a year ago, and honestly these chips are damn good for the money compared to "real" clay chips. I would liek to invest in a new set, but that's alot more $$. The truth is that the 11.5g chips are more than good enough for 75% of the people out there.

....probably closer to 90%

Anyway, I'd say just get some NexGens and be done with it /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
