Poker v Black Jack

I am a consistent winner in poker, and I am tinking of getting into Black Jack. Is there more money to be made in black jack than in poker, or should I just stick strickly with poker. If so what is the best BEGINING black jack book.

for absolute bare bones and cheap (CORRECT) blackjack strategy, you can start with:

a) The Smarter Bet Guide To Blackjack by Basil Nestor ($4.95)
b) The American Casino Guide by Steve Bourie ($16.95 but comes with $1000 in coupons)

you might also consider Blackjack Bluebook II by Fred Renzey which will take you from beginner level all the way up to intermediate in one shot. Don't buy counting systems like Knock-Out Blackjack or Professional Blackjack for your first book, they are too complicated for beginners to understand.

mathematically speaking, poker will definitely make you more money in the long run than blackjack, both online and off. but since I generally play poker at home all the time already, when I'm in an actual B&M casino I definitely enjoy having sessions of BJ and VP as well (those games get better comps too).

Less risk....well that depends on your BR...but yes, the swings can be much more dramatic in BJ.

The thing with BJ, its all about the BR...depending on the money you have, you might be able to make more at BJ. In poker, generally smart players build a BR, by moving up levels, to insure they are beating the game and getting the best of it.

In BJ, assuming you've learned to count, and verified you can do it, your actual edge, earn rate, and ROR is easily calculated(unlike poker). So, the level you play in BJ is limited by your BR and risk tolerance, not your skill(poker).

You might have a 50k BR, but only the skill to beat a 3/6 poker game....you'll definitly make more in BJ.

BJ Bluebook would be a good starting point, but KO book is not at all complicated, it lays out the system very clearly for a newbie.

I do the same. I've never really understood the "poker vs BJ". It gets to be a real grind at B&M poker room. Its a nice change of pace to do something else...but I still want to do something where I can get an edge.

I agree, learning how to beat blackjack or the rare video poker machine that has the right payout system, is good for a change of pace, or for something to do while waiting for a table.

After a long poker session, I was kind of walking around the casino just unwinding and relaxing.

I stopped at an 8 deck shoe blackjack game (now you know why I don't play blackjack at this casino). The dealer had shuffled, and was playing heads up with a player. I just kind of kicked into auto pilot and started counting the cards. Before I knew it, there were 4 decks played out, the TC was +4 with about 2 decks to go (another clue why no blackjack playing at this casino). I asked the player if he minded if I joined him, and started playing two hands at $75 each. About 10 minutes later the shoe ended and I was up $250.

I colored up my 10 minute $250 in winnings, left the table, and added it to the $700 in winnings it had taken me 10 hours of $5/$10 to accumulate. Remind me why I took up poker again?
