the weather up here in montana has been very warm as of late. actually the last few years have been warm winters and summers. we have no snow on the ground. impossible.
its been in the 40's every day and even the grizzly bears are coming out and roaming around. trees are looking like they are budding a little. strange to see weather patterns changing so fast.

as you know, my Dad lives in Kalispell too -

he's been bitching for years about drought - hopefully you guys will still get a ton of snow/rain - get that snowpack built up a bit.

I've heard stories about bears coming out of hibernation too soon when it got too warm too early - it was happening in Russia this year too.

You should string your kitchen up in a tree.

Perhaps you can grow some extra vegetables and other crops in your garden now?

You will be slammed by some Canadian Front soon and be waist deep in snow and 20 below. I hope. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Odd, I wonder when they shot the footage they used on Sunday Morning yesterday. It was definitely rather snowy in Grizzly Gulch.

Ray,
I cannot imagine Montana without snow. When I lived in Helena(back in 2000-2001), we had snow on the ground from October to April. Enjoy it while it lasts, because I am sure it will be cold and miserable again soon.

with this warm weather in feb. we are going to get another deer population explosion. right now i got about 40 out in my lower meadow eating grass. with most having a fawn or two it will get interesting. the good part is the elk and moose will multiply and the birds should make it easily till spring now that they had a reprive and got to fatten up on buds.

I wouldn't have expected global warming to include Montana.

Oh Man, You are just making my mouth water. I am going out right now and get more elk and deer steaks out of the freezer for dinner!

We already have more deer around here (SE Montana) than I can believe at times. There are areas here where we can see literally 500 to 600 deer in a 1/2 hour drive. More and more elk as well and the antelope are just out of control. No moose though, although I wish we had them as well as more black bears. In the last three years we have seen twins with just about every doe with quite a few who had triplets as well. Just amazing.

Yes, I would like to find a little time to spend up in the Beartooths this summer. I have been up there a couple of times but never when I have had much time to hang around and explore and fish much.
It is beautiful up there!

Oh, and after highs in the mid 60's to 70's the last couple of days we now have snow on the ground!
