View Full Version : what's a usual chipstack on/after the bubble at low-limits?

So looking back through my SnGs I examined my chip count on the bubble or immediately after. Typically, with a starting stack of 800, my range of chips by the time the bubble hits is ~800-1400, probably average around 1100, while I'm usually against a couple of stacks 2,000+ and blinds 50/100 or 75/150. Is this the usual chipstack I should expect to have at this point unless I've gotten very lucky?

Ivy, I think you might be asking a question that is difficult to answer because of your terminology. I personally define the bubble as the period where there is one more player than the total number of players paid. In an SnG, that would be 4.

This does reflect on a thought I had today. What do other 2+2ers call that period between level 4 and the bubble?

Same as you, 4 handed in a 3 paid structure.

Not exactly a direct answer to your question, but over the past 50 times that I've finished in the money, I've been tracking my chip count when we narrowed the field down to three. Average chip stack should be 2,667 [8,000/3]

My findings:
Those times that I've finished 1st, my average stack right at the point where the 4th place person is eliminated is 3,354 (21 times, 687 chips more than average). My low stack was 1,730, and my high stack was 5,415

When I finish 2nd, my average stack is 2,088 (11 times, 579 chips less than average). High stack of 3,627 and low stack of 1,040.

And when 3rd, my average stack is 2,105 (18 times, 561 chips less than average). High of 3,695, low of 958.

Once again, these are the stacks that I have for the first hand after the field has been narrowed to three. I have only tracked this over the past 105 tourneys at the 10+1 level. ITM of ~47% and ROI of ~49%.

Ivy, really?

So on average when you reach the bubble, your blinds are still in the 50/100 and 75/150? This seems awfully early for the average bubble period. What site do you play? What is the average game length in terms of time?

In any regards, if you truly mean the bubble, then I don't think your chipstack is that off. That seems like a common position for a tight aggressive player.

Pacific, average length ~50min to 1 hour. They gave me a free $20 to start so I decided to build it up to $300-500 if I can (assuming I don't just get fed up with pacific before that) and then move to party. Their blinds move up every 15 hands 10/20-15/30-25/50-50/100-75/150 etc. By the time the 150 blinds hit if there's more than 3 left it's usually some lucky shortstack(s) that's been managing to hang on through the blinds. Chips fly everywhere in pacific SnGs.

ROI 33.5% and ITM 43%, I think I need to take a look at my short-handed play though because I've been getting a lot of 2nds and 3rds the last 20 or so tourneys.
