just 2 orbits..no read

PP25 6max
I have 40$
Villan has 40$ as well

UTG I limp with red 9's
MP limps with me
Button raises to 2.75
Villan at BB calls
I call the 2.25
MP folds

pot 9$ with UTG(villan) , Me, Button (raiser)
flop is 4s 6h 4c
UTG checks
I bet 10$ (perhaps 1/2 or 2/3 pot bet here?)
button folds
UTG calls

pot 29$

turn 7h
UTG checks

should I check-fold?
only hand I beat is 8's
I'm behind all pairs above 9's

(I think villian will often have tens/ jacks and even QQ maybe, AA/KK I'd think he would reraise with 3 limpers ahead.)

I think my mistake is making such big bet on flop which is nearly gets me pot commited.

comments?
thanks for taking the time.

Raise with 99 pre-flop.

isn't it better to play for set value since
-I won't steal blinds often enough with a 4bb raise from UTG
-It sucks to play mid pairs out of position in raised pot?

I don't play 6-max, but I understand that you need to be aggressive. In fullring, yes I'd limp this UTG and play it for set value.

Your writeup is very confusing. I think there are two UTGs and no BB. Can you make it a bit clearer what is happening? I think the BB just checked on the turn. You should check behind and then call a small bet on the river or check if checked to.

oh I messed up..
it should read
seeing the flop with Villan in BB me in UTG and raiser on button

So "UTG" in the flop and turn is really "BB" right? In that case, I think my previous response was correct. Also, 6 max, I do usually raise 99. But not necessarily from UTG and not necessarily when the table is a bunch of loose calling stations.

I think you're fine preflop. I would NOT limp reraise with 99 as was suggested. (edit:not suggested, DOH. I don't like raising 99 UTG even in 6max. Thought of myself as aggressive to but this seems pushing it to me. With position, fine, but play 99 out of position the whole hand? I hate it)

Edit: I misread the hand. At $100 level, villain has a 4 at least 75% of the time. Not sure at this level. Either check and fold, or take a cheap showdown and make a crying call. My vote is check the turn and fold the river.

No one suggested limp/raise. TBach's suggestion, and my frequent play is simply to raise 99 preflop.
