Tunica advice request

I did a search but didn't find applicable info. wanna play cash games of hold'em, 5-10 mostly. Still new at serious play. This is my first poker trip. When I went to Vegas 3 years back wasn't poker serious. nearby riverboat created a poker room recently and have been playing 5-10 last month or so. Anyway, any advice and info wil be welcome. thanks.

The search function sucks.

In that range, Horseshoe has 4/8, Goldstrike has 6/12 (sometimes with 1 and 3 blinds), and the Grand has 4/8. Horseshoe and Goldstrike are right next door to each other (probably a two minute walk from one room to the other), Grand is about a five minute drive north of those two.

Horseshoe has by far the best room in Tunica. All of the games in that range are pretty much equally soft. All of three of those places offer room rates around $20 during the week, $35 on the weekend (IIRC). Weekends sell out quickly, so call well in advance.

Sam's Town and Hollywood also have rooms, but they're out of the way and nothing special IMO.

Stay at the Goldstrike, play there and at the Horseshoe next door. Everything else is far away relatively and there's no reason to leave those two casinos (you can run between them in the rain and not get wet).

By the way, the 3/6 game at the Goldstrike is arguably the softest game on the planet -- the 6/12 isn't always running, nor is the $10/20, or if they're both full, sit at that game for a half hour while you wait and you'll pay for your room for the night.

I was in Tunica just before Xmas. I agree with the Barron about the softness of the $3/$6 at the Goldstrike. If you are a decent player, you'll have lots and lots of white chips in front of you. If you play Omaha/8, the $4/$8 with a half kill at the Goldstrike was also quite soft. I didn't play any baby nolimit, but there were a few tables going.

I also played at the Grand. The $4/$8 game wasn't difficult, but a bit harder than the $3/$6 at the Strike. When I was at the Grand, they never got any Omaha or no-limit started. The cash games were pretty much all low-limit holdem-they were spreading $2/$4, $4/$8, $7.50/$15, and $10/$20 when I was there.

Are the Goldstrike's hotel rooms decent? What hotel in Tunica has the best hotel rooms?

I think the Goldstrike's rooms are very nice. They are nicer than the Excalibur in las Vegas but not as nice as the MGM Grand.

I rarely spend enough time in a room for it to matter.

The Goldstrike's rooms are very nice -- like the guy above says, you won't be in it THAT long but when you are, they are more than adequate.

I didn't check out other hotel rooms but I can't stress enough that the poker experience there is best served between Goldstrike and the Horseshoe, and they are right next door to each other.

It's not Vegas where you can wander down the strip and go anywhere -- other casinos are MILES apart, something to consider.

You absolutely can't beat the $20 Goldstrike rooms, though (call the poker room, NOT the front desk, to book -- and do it ASAP), not to mention that they are very easy going about comps (for you and/or one other person) and you can literally eat in Mississippi for free as long as you're there -- Horseshoe's food maybe is a little better and you can likewise get comped over there for every meal, but I don't think their poker room rate is anything to sing about.

It's nuts.

Everyone tells me the food is better at the Horseshoe but they must be talking about somewhere other than the Buffet. I didn't like the Horseshoe's Buffet at all. I thought the Goldstrike's Buffet was very good. Sam's Town has a good buffet.

If you ever stay at the Excalibur in Las Vegas, aviod their Buffet at all costs. It was a severe disapointment.

Horseshoe is $35 on the weekend. Probably $20-25 during the week, but I've only stayed on weekends.

Is that per night or long as you hold that seat? Reason I"m asking my wife and her sister and husband be along. Figure I might have to leave room for while to eat stupid dinner or something, do you then repay to go back in on your return? Thanks
