The Band = awesome.

Versions of "I Shall Be Released," "Helpless," "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down" on that film = unbelievably good.

The Band? You don't know The Band?

They were Dylan's tour band, as well as some other peoples'. Then they put out some of their own albums, really good southern-sounding rock, with some folk and blues influences as well. I say 'Southern sounding' because all but one member were from Canada.

Song you would know: "The Weight" (currently in that irritating cell phone commercial with the bars everywhere).

Last Waltz web page (http://theband.hiof.no/videos/last_waltz.html)

Excerpt:

In May/April 2002, United Artists, MGM Home Entertainment, and Rhino Records re-released the film, a special edition DVD with a remastered and remixed soundtrack, and a remastered four-CD boxed set, all featuring performances from the concert that didn't make the original film or album. A 30-track audio DVD was also released in 2002.

Lots more good info about The Last Waltz and The Band on that site.

Agreed...I think I'll find a Robbie Robertson webiste with a message board and troll it as some sort of homage.
