I really like the Green day song Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

Acknowledging I have a problem is the first step, right?

Of course you like that song, it's great. Original? Hell, no. Catchy and well-executed? Absolutely.

Everyone likes this song. Just like everyone likes Avril Lavigne's Complicated.

I am not exaggerating, but after I read the post to which you were responding, I clicked to open up your post, and, still reacting to the other post myself, was literally saying the exact same words OUT LOUD.

Dear TSC,

I have noticed a tendency you have to simply copy peoples' posts as your response to their posts. I have also noticed a fair number of one-and-two-word responses.

I have only just now noticed this, so I have to wonder (being too lazy to search) if all 73758930835 of your posts have been this, uh, succinct.

If so, I hereby suggest we enact some sort of a rule about what actually constitutes a post.

No offense.

And I LIKE the song.

That was the other part of my point.

What is inferred, you see, is that perhaps there is something wrong with me.

I mean, I was the one and only bass player for Pussy Galore, for Chrissakes!

Hmm, maybe I should be ashamed that I've been a Green Day fan for 11 years. I first saw them in concert in 1995 and I saw them for the 7th time this past Halloween and I was like the oldest one there!

Their new album is their 7th and it's been nominated for 7 Grammys.

Why are we not supposed to like music that's really popular. Is this some holdover from getting made fun of for being good at math or something?

[/ QUOTE ]

I know what you're saying, but in my case, it comes from invariably NOT liking any popular music, ever. Thus, it becomes a stupid badge of honor or something, and suddenly, BAM--you're a music snob (i.e. "Oh, please. Marilyn Manson. Right. Here, try this G.G. Allin instead," etc.)

Plus, I'm no damned good at math. The math kids used to beat me up at school for being a punk.

DISCLAIMER: That last part was a joke.

for a man with Shane Macgowan as your avatar, yes...you should kick your own ass.

Now as for me...I first heard it, and thought it was pretty cool sounding - then I heard the lyrics and was substantially less impressed.

Then I heard the bastard 200 times on VH1 - now it makes me sick.

Dude, I don't get what is the big deal. It's a catchy song. He has a really good voice. I've grown up with Green Day, and while some of their stuff sucks alot of it is some good poppy punk.

Do we all have to listen to indie rock that's not on the radio to be "cool"? I think it's fine to like mainstream rock.

Truth is, I had never noticed what a good voice he actually has. I was surprised and a little skeptical, but then I happened across a live performance of the song, and he hits all the notes, so there's that.

Also, YES, we DO all have to listen to indie rock that's not on the radio to be cool.

Duh.
