Empire friend transfer + 1st time deposit?

If my friend signs up at Empire and I transfer him some money through Empire, can he still take advantage of the first time deposit bonus? Does it matter if my friend lives with me?

why don't you email empire? unless you plan on playing at same table and sharing holecards it seems like something that you should not be afraid to ask empire support. why would you trust a random poster's answer anyway? i had to email empire support yesterday and they answered right away.
