When the weather gets warm, I'm planning on taking a trip to Saratoga to spend a few days at the track with some friends of mine. I know absolutely nothing about horse betting. Does anyone know of any good beginners guides? If I went up and lost every dime I had on me, I wouldn't mind 'cause it's a trip for fun, but I gamble to win, so I'd like to walk away with more than I went in with. Any suggestions?

Check out anything by Andrew Beyer or Steve Davidowitz. IMO they're the Sklansky-Malmuth of thoroughbred handicapping.

As a general rule at Saratoga, upgrade any horse that faded at Belmont running on the front end. Speed holds better at the Spa than at the big oval in Queens. This is especially key the first 2 weeks of the meeting.

You might check a couple of the other forums here, Sports Betting and Other Gambling. Not sure which is appropriate for the track.
