I play mostly SNG's and was wonering how I would go about calculating bankroll requirements given my record of play over the last x sessions. Also, what about figuring bankroll requirements for cash games? So if I have a certain win rate over x sessions with y SD how much would I need to be 95% sure I would not go broke. The SNG calculation would seem to be a little differant because its not the number of hands played, but the number of tournaments played, resulting in a smaller sample size.

For cash games, here's the popular Chen-Weideman formula:

For a win rate of w, Bankroll of B and std deviation of s, your chance of busting is

ROR = exp(-2Bw/s^2).

Rearranging for B instead you get:

B = -s^2*ln(ROR)/2w

So just enter your w, s and maximum acceptable ROR. Hope I didn't screw that up.

5 10 $4,000 400x $2,200 220x $1,800 180x

50 100 $165,000 1650x $74,900 749x $38,700 387x

Note:
The larger the limits, the more aggressive -- therefore the more bankroll needed
Also, I extrapolated 5/10 b/c it wasn't included in the table

EDIT: oops, you didn't ask about limit... oh well, I won't delete it.
