through 50 5+1 tourneys, these are my placings:

1st 6
2nd 9
3rd 10
4th 10 (out of money)

50% in the money
~30% ROI

how can I improve my placings for a higher ROI?
My ROI was in the 50% range through the first 25 tourneys and then it dropped significantlly.

ugggghhhh, that youre calculating a ROI on 35 or 50 tourneys. I really can't imagine your being serious, but just in case you are look back a few pages and read about ROI and sample size.

my question is not about ROI. I did read the thread about sample size and i do understand that this sample size is small. I am asking this because i have 20 finishes in 3rd and 4th, and only 6 in 1st. I see that as a leak that i want to fix. I just dont know how.

One n00b to another...

Ignore the actual results. Seriously. If you claim to understand sample size, etc. etc., this should be easy. Otherwise, give up now while you're ahead. If you aren't using Pokertracker or similar software now, start. That is leak #1. Fifty transcripts are not too many to review in detail in one afternoon. Look at every single hand with five or fewer left at the table. Did you bust pushing a marginal holding into a big stack? Did you miss an opportunity to steal blinds from the mid stacks before all your foling equity disappeared? I don't know if this is relevant or helpful, but I thought I'd try.

Slim is correct. The best thing you can do for yourself is get PokerTracker load in your hands and begin to analyze both your wins and losers. There are other posts in this area in which it is not unusual to go 10 to 12 SnG OTM BTW.

Just as you need a larger sample to have any kind of meaningful ROI, you need a larger sample to know how often you finish 1st, 2nd, third, etc. Right now, your results are nearly meaningless.

genya, i'm a miserable misanthrope when it comes to the intelligence and willingness to use the mind of our fellow men and women. but, i always find it a bit calming to meet someone starting out in some endeavor, at the smallest level, who is still excited, optimistic, and willing to work. good luck.....h
